He was meh in Generations because for both Sonics, your Rings depleted REALLY quickly. And there weren't enough Rings in the stages to make up for this.
And Classic Super Sonic was basically just an invincibility power-up. You didn't move faster. In fact, I could swear his acceleration was slower.
Modern Super Sonic was also invincible, but his added perk was that he had infinite boost. And most of the time, the boost button didn't make him actually boost. Instead, he would start flying along a spline path, skipping sections of the level, and making his Rings deplete at an extreme rate (you could go from 200 to 0 in a matter of seconds). It was a cool thrill the first time, but when you see it once, you never need to go back (plus it could lead to death if you ran out of Rings while flying over a bottomless pit). Modders have fixed both Super Sonics on PC, though.
In Lost World (Wii U) however, he's invincible, he's faster, the Spin Dash is replaced by a boost that is even faster (which also means no need to charge the Spin Dash unless you're using parkour moves), he attracts Rings as if he had an electric shield, and he defies the games normal physics when using parkour. Plus, levels are bursting with Rings, and with that added Ring magnet Super Sonic has, it is literally impossible to run out of Rings. He can also use Wisps, unlike in Sonic Colours, but you revert to normal Sonic once you use one (but provided you still have over 50 Rings, you can just switch right back to Super Sonic when the Wisp finishes).

Apologies for the bump, but in case any of you intend to visit Sonic Retro tomorrow:
Don't visit the website at all while it is still October 31st in the UK, if you are faint of heart, or you hate screamers or stuff that's meant to creep you out.

Never visited Sonic Retro in a while, what do you mean by 'screamers' though

Last year, they had a really well done Halloween prank.
When you were browsing the site as normal on October 31st last year, you'd suddenly have TV static all over your browser window (sound and all). When it finished, you'd get one of a few creepy images based on a Sonic creepypasta in the background of the web page. As well as the image, there would be music and sound to match it.
Frightened the life out of me the first time it happened to me. I had my browser in full screen view, so I thought I had gotten a virus when the static came up. Then, I saw an interpretation of Sonic.EXE in the background of the webpage, complete with inverted music and the Kefka laugh from FFVI.
I know that Tails Doll also came up sometimes. Also, the process repeated EVERY time you loaded up a new page.
It doesn't sound like much, but it's actually creepy the first time it happens.

Dude, we know they have halloween easter eggs, what's the point in pulling a prank if the game is already given?

I just watched all the Sonic Lost World cutscenes, and I do believe that's the first time I've seen Sonic and Tails have believable chemistry in the games!

I wouldn't say the first time, but it's the most interesting take on it.

Meh, you'd think, having been under Sonic's side for about 20 years, Sonic would lose the attitude to Tails. I'd like Tails to also be less of a Damsel in Distress, while he does demonstrate his technological prowess, he's the guy who could keep up with the fastest thing alive! Surely a reminder of his offensive capabilities would be neat.

Like I've said before, Tails has a crowning moment of awesome near the end.
And in this, he's not really a damsel in distress - Sonic almost foolishly gets himself captured, but Tails saves him, at the cost of taking the capture for Sonic. But Tails gets out by his own merits, he didn't need Sonic to save him (Sonic just sets out to do so anyway).

Ah yes, the Egg Capsule trap. You make a good point regarding Tails, though I still wonder why they can't let him have a piece of the action also.

Tails was treated much better in Classic Games. I wish Tails can be playable in new game and be fast almost as Sonic and being able to attack like in SA 1

Well if you want to ignore his endless abuse as a sidekick, that he himself references in Sonic Generations, theeeen...OK!
But yeah, I do want to see Tails and Knuckles make a return as playable characters.
And I think Lost World's gameplay template is perfect for it. The biggest problem one has to overcome with multiple characters in a Sonic game, is that none of them should feel like the objective best. And Sonic himself still needs to feel special.
So I say, let the parkour and homing attack be Sonic's special abilities (as well as a SLIGHTLY faster running speed and acceleration). Then give Tails his flight, and Knuckles his wall climbing/gliding (and give both Tails and Knuckles something to replace the homing attack, but is just as useful).

I think the reason we've been getting Sonic only games is because Sonic Team is scared. Notice how the last game with multiple characters is Sonic 06.

Technically, the last 3D game with multiple characters was actually Sonic and the Black Knight (as you could play as Knuckles, Shadow, and Blaze), though that game admittedly was doing it's own thing entirely.
And Tails was playable in Sonic 4: Episode II.
But it kind of feels like they are relying on Wisps to give Sonic the powers other characters might have (such as Hover being the equivalent to Tails' flight). I don't understand why. They could just make Wisps unique to Sonic, or make a different set of usable Wisps for each character, that compliments their play style.
