By the way, there hasn't been any official communication about the 30th Anniversary Edition music, but it's an open secret that it comes down to a rights issue with some of the tracks. It looks like Rémi's tracks were remade while staying pretty close to the originals, whereas the tracks from the other composers were replaced with entirely new ones that have nothing to do with the previous ones.
My understanding is that French copyright law primarily protects the individual (the actual human being who created the work) and doesn't automatically grant a company ownership of the music created for them. So, if you want to reuse the game's original soundtrack, you have to sign a new contract with the composers.
And that's where things get complicated. My theory is that for some of these tracks, nobody actually knows who composed them anymore. That makes them "orphan works", which would create a massive liability for Ubi if the original author suddenly woke up and demanded damages for the illegal use of their IP.
So they had to replace part of the music with entirely new compositions, and to keep the whole thing cohesive, they remade Rémi's music without changing it too much (they probably made a deal with his family).
It's just a theory, and I don't know why this problem popped up with the 30th Anniversary Edition and not Rayman Classic, but it doesn't seem completely crazy to me.

On the bright side, now we know exactly which songs in the original soundtrack were composed by Rémi Gazel!
If the most faithful songs in the 30th anniversary soundtrack were composed by Rémi, then that means he composed First Steps, The Magician’s Challenge, Bzzit Attacks, Flight of the Mosquito, Hold on tight!, Meditating Monks, Blazing Brass, (maybe) Duet with Mr. Sax, (maybe) Suspense ~Cutting the Ropes~, Entering the Cavern, Lurking in the Darkness, Party at Joe’s, Venomous Mr. Skops, Creepy Clowns, Mr. Dark’s Dare, Once More, End of the Line, (maybe) Yeah!, and Oh no!. Everything else was done by other composers.

much, much worse
RayCarrot wrote:You may think this means there will now be multiple claws in the level, but there is only a single claw, so what happens instead if that the same ID for the same object gets added to the list of active objects over and over... Then each frame of the game it now processes the object multiple times.
Oh wow, that's interesting! I didn't think add_alwobj would add the same object twice… But then that function was only added in the PC version, and its inclusion also broke the code for Bad Rayman's fist!

Oh that’s lame, that means I may never hear an updated version of Bongo Bridge, The Band Awakens, Stage Fright, Harmony, Peaceful Peaks, Painted Pentathlon or Space Mama’s Finale. But I do like some of the tracks listed here so that’s pretty great.

I’d like to maintain forgetting this change happened. To me that is definitely not one of the “improvements” redemption brought to the table

I can't tell if this is serious? If it is, I'm really sorry, but this has to be one of the worst opinions I've ever read on this site.
A few redrawn heads in one of the worlds are somehow "much, much worse" than the removal of the soundtrack, which to me is like 80% of what made Rayman 1 good. Of course this is subjective, and I also agree that the original sprite was way better, but considering the soundtrack affects every moment you spend playing this, it just isn't on the same level at all. Not even comparable. They could have changed every character (including Rayman)'s head to this redesigned sprite instead of redoing the soundtrack and the game would still be much nicer.

Unfortunately if I were to explain this to the Rayman fandom with the way it is now, people would be thinking it's bullshit or an excuse on why they can't use the original soundtrack.

It's a very plausible theory, copyright is a very complicated road. Plus I would like to add that the problem didn't happen for Rayman Classic because, well, Remi was still alive in 2016.
As for the redraw, I'm just sitting here like, "...I've facepalmed enough times that a hand shaped divot has appeared on my face, what's another plus one to add to the divot..." then I realized, "Oh right, it's Twitter... no wonder."

Yeah, I was being a bit trollish with the "much, much" qualification, basically because I was surprised that nobody had brought it up yet!

Maybe whoever started this idiotic controversy back then finally realized it made no sense at all? One can only hope.

I wasn't expecting that disaster to be brought back again!
Ooh god... I didn't even want to remember that...
...Also,
let's not forget the travesty that are the Hunter's bullets in Redemption!
And speaking of which, I want to add another opinion to that matter! Firearms usually don't belong in games intended for very young children such as Rayman 1... and one reason why the Hunters actually worked as an harmless cartoonish joke is that their weapons were entirely comedic: the bullets themselves are irrelevant, it's the mallet that they pull out which actually hurts Rayman!
So, by changing the bullets the way Ryemanni did, they fail not only at actually ressembling the huge exagerrated missiles from Origins, but they mostly fail at belonging in the most colourful and innocent depiction of Rayman's world, as they now explode on Rayman like actual weapon ammo!
Truly, Redemption is the fraudest of all frauds! This unacceptably unacceptable heresy will not stand! Rise up, Rayman fans! Let's protest in the streets and cancel this game corrupting the youth and giving guns to our kids! #NotMyRaymanBullets !

Well, someone actually did! Ryemanni himself!
He recently expressed a jab at some complaints made on Redemption, including mockingly saying "revert the sprite to being racist again" (specifically his redesign to the one from the final Rayman 1), or something of the sort in his stream on ancient Rayman fangames...

Alas, I highly doubt it, if anything they must firmly believe the opposite...
The last times I saw that person, they were attacking LS Mark over some nonsense, spreading misinformation on Rayman games even when people corrected them ("Origins is an official reboot", "Designer isn't available anywhere anymore" [ya know, except GOG... or Ubisoft Connect

]), essentially saying Rayman is a franchise for people who support sexual abuse...
And just a quick glimpse at their account was all I needed to know that all this person was doing with their life is spending all their time being toxic to everything on Earth every single day!
Yup... just the average Twitter/Tumblr toxic crap like for a certain someone we brought up not too long ago elsewhere... except much worse!
As for me, I take back what I said six years ago...
(IT'S ALREADY BEEN THAT LONG!!??
)
Aside from their refined appearance in ReDesigner, I just dislike these designs in the context of Rayman 1.
Not only does the rework looks very unpolished in Redemption, but turning the space pirates into cyclops robots makes 0 sense for Rayman 1's world!
What do robots or cyclops even have to do with Picture City?
Like, if they would have been reskinned to look like relatives of Space Mama or straight up viking pirates, it could have made sense I guess, but this redesign is just downright nonsensical...
...Anyway, back to the "true" Rayman 1!
We got some official and poorly done wallapers... urh, wallpapers!

Did they even try with the tiles, here!?

Here's also even more feedback loop with Bzzit being mentionned in an official meme!

"literally positive energy"? Cause electrons are the positive-energy solutions to the Dirac equation, and positrons (antitoons) can be thought of as corresponding to the negative-energy ones?

Don't get your hopes up if you see a 171 mb update for the 30th Anniversary on Steam today. Legends and other Ubisoft games got it too so it's the usual Ubisoft Connect stuff...
I don't know if they really have plans to update the game despite what has been hinted, but it sure is taking long... I wonder if they're waiting for the physical release in June...
That aside, I forgot if this was shared here, but RayCarrot explained
the Jaguar life bug in-depth which apparently also happened in the original Atari release.
https://bsky.app/profile/raycarrot.bsky ... oljffork2z
With more people having experienced the Jaguar version of Rayman 1 I thought it'd be a good time to discuss a bug from the game.
It's pretty easy to trigger; just enter a level, get a new life from 100 tings and then exit. Now your life count has been reset to 0

Explanation below

[...]
TLDR; they used the wrong register size in the code, causing a loop not to exit when intended.

I have a super specific question and I was hoping someone here could help me out
I remember seeing animation where Rayman starts playing basketball with his torso. I know this animation in Rayman 2 but I've seen it in Rayman 1. Can anyone confirm which version has it? Or was it just Rayman Redemption?

I remember this mostly from the continue screen of Rayman 3 GBA, but I think it is also an idle animation in Rayman 1. If I had to guess which version - I'd say Jaguar, but I'm not sure.

If there's anyone interested in trying to mod the game, and putting in a new remastered soundtrack I'd be so grateful!
I'm currently working on remastering the soundtrack. (
viewtopic.php?t=75931 it's still work in progress, but I'd love it if someone could apply the soundtracks into the game once it's done) I wouldn't care if the mod was made for the 30th Anniversary, original 1995 release or Redemption. Which ever would be the easiest to mod, so if anyone thinks they could be up for it, please let me know!
Cheers!

Update 1.1 for 30th Anniversary is now live on every platform, except Switch (most likely due to the slower review process)!
The patch is ~2,4 Gb in size and here's the
Steam changelog:
Quality of life addition & Improvements
IMPROVED: The legacy save game systems are no longer affected by selecting “Reset Game” from the escape menu
You can now create and access the legacy save game profiles, and each profile now has a separate progression
ADDED: option to deactivate the Rewind feature (via the options menu)
IMPROVED: Rewind feature is now more fluid
General Fixes
FIXED: An issue leading players to lose their game progress when playing the PSX / Jaguar / DOS versions
FIXED: An issue leading to sound effects being triggered later than intended, especially after using the rewind feature
FIXED: Gameplay “choppiness” induced by using screen refresh rates higher than 60Hz. (If you continue encountering the issue, we advise setting your monitor to 60Hz refresh rate)
FIXED: An issue leading to images not appearing when browsing the in-game timeline within the “History” section
FIXED: An issue leading to a crash when pressing two buttons simultaneously on the Jaguar version. (The issue persists when playing the SNES prototype)
FIXED: An issue preventing a Ting from disappearing when collecting it in the Timeline section of the game
FIXED: An issue preventing the HIDE UI option to work as it should in the “History” section of the game
FIXED: Various music-related issues when playing the Jaguar version
FIXED: Instances of overlap between subtitles and speaker names when watching documentary videos
FIXED: Sound volume option in the game version menus was not adjusting music and victory celebration volumes accordingly. (Restarting the game resets the option, however)
EDIT: Just checked and still no way to play Ubi Cliff in Rayman GBC... Maybe next time!
