Some of the enemies don't even look like they belong in a Rayman game.
One thing's for sure though, we can make even more wildcapped theories about the Rayman 1 bridge to Rayman 2.

I'm pretty sure this influenced Ubi to make Tonic Trouble.
He could be either Mr. Dark or he created Razorbeard for your crazy Rayman 1 bridge to 2 theories. Certainly is part of mine now.

That beta version of R2 really looked like a true and direct sequel to R1.
If they hadn't scrapped it, and they had made R3 the first 3D Rayman game, then it would have been a 2D series making the jump to 3D, rather than a 2D game making the jump to 3D.
The whole series would have had a proper continuity and everything.
Who knows? Maybe scrapping the beta of R2 was the worst game-developing decision ever? Sadly, we'll never know.

Unfortunately that sort of thing happens a lot to games, and it's mostly because the teams end up deciding that so and so isn't gonna work in the end.

I actually find it strange that they didn't just change from 2D to 3D but they completely scrapped all the ideas they already had.

How much info do we have on the beta version of R2? Do we know the story and what all the levels and characters were going to be? Was the beta R2 about robo-pirates invading too?
I wonder if any of the stuff from it will be in future games?
