You know, I wish so much that someone release the entire Rayman2 PS1 version as an addon / level pack / reimagination / redemption for the PC. I am fascinated by the different content, but can't get over the technical inferiority of the PlayStation, compared to a PC with Glide / Dreamcast / PlayStation 2.

That’d be brilliant! I love the levels and voice acting in the PS1 version but believe the graphics hold it back majorly

Not sure if this is allowed, but I found two devs that developed part of the 2D prototype.
Does anyone have a LinkedIn account, they can use to reach out to these two devs, and ask if they have anything from the development repository, or a build of the game they can share.
The first dev mentions that 2 levels are playable in the PSX version, but only one is accessible.
I wonder if it's still there, but there's a variable that doesn't increment, leaving only 1 level playable.

Very good find tbh, sorry I don’t have an acc but I wonder if somebody will access the second level in the future?

Since I was playing Rayman 2 a few days ago, I asked myself... Why are there like fossils of pirates in the tombs of the Tomb of the Ancients? Are they pirates who have been killed by the beings that live there? I don't know, it would make more sense if they were looted or if they were other types of beings from the Glade of Dreams.

What if the robo pirates aren’t actually robots…

Here's one take on it:

The name "Tomb of the Ancients" might be somewhat of a mistranslation, seeing as it gives off a different vibe than the original French name.
Although I really like the thought that the Ancients were beings that existed a long time ago (I even use that in Dreambound), and although it would be amazing if there was some kind of cyclic history in the Rayman universe, we might just have been wrong by thinking about ancient things this whole time!

In the original French name "Le Tombeau des Anciens", the word ancien in French of course means ancient when looked at as an adjective, but as a noun, it means "predecessor in a function". The robots in the Tomb of the Ancients might simply be Razorbeard's predecessors - the previous captains of the Robo-Pirate army. :)
But that would raise more questions: why would his predecessors be buried in the Glade? The war hasn't been raging on for that long, has it?

Well that's new for me, I didn't know that about the French version! It would be interesting to know if a previous pirate generation already tried to conquer the Glade of Dreams without success. If that's so, it makes sense that destroying the Heart of the World was their top priority in Rayman 2 to facilitate their goal.

So I decided to run thru the PS1 version of Rayman 2 on a whim, and I noticed something that might be a bit odd...I can't use the charge for the magic fist if I'm helicoptering.

Now I need to double check with the other versions, but the fact that muscle memory is having me try to charge fist while helicoptering leads me to wonder if the other versions did allow you to charge when you are helicoptering, and it's the PS1 version that's the anachronism by not having that feature.

When I'm free again I'll double check. (Or I find a video of Rayman 2 and see if there's any evidence there xD)

OK, I was almost certain upon reading your message that it can be done on PC. So I fired up the game, and I was right, it can indeed be done on PC :hap:

Haha well that saves me the trouble then xD

It's not exactly the most substantial of differences that the PS1 version has, but it's interesting having played most of the major versions at this point, just how seemingly minute the differences can be.

Might log this on the wiki if it's not already done so.

I don't know why did they change it, but something that has always caught my attention in Rayman Revolution compared to other versions is the way Rayman shoots when he charges his magic fist. It has always reminded me of a Kamehameha

That's when you buy the charge power up, no? I think you can buy it as early as finishing the Fairy's Glade, and I think it's neat how you can right away charge up your fist without having to wait for the last silver lum given by Globox.

I was reading through RayWiki and I am now wondering something. The lone Robo-pirate that looks like he's fishing in the Marshes of Awakening, can he actually be destroyed? I never bothered to try doing this since I was always just trying not to die while skiing on Ssssssam, but....

I’ve never played revolution, never intend to play it. So I wouldn’t know sorry

Given that it's you, that would make sense, but you're going to miss out on a lot of interesting things if you don't take the time to take the scenic path!

Also I meant to say in any version of R2 not just Revolution. Oh but you probably wouldn't know that either since you don't like R2 so don't bother to confirm my theory.

Heh watch him reply 30 seconds later, oblivious to what I said

Tbh I find the charge power up to be kinda mid in revolution. It's kinda useful in the early game, but the moment you're up against missile troopers it loses its utility cause the missiles come too fast before you can charge up. I'm more inclined towards fully upgraded ricochet, that stuff can be fun in clearing out multiple pirates, or just sniping 😁

As for that pirate in the Marshes. A few years ago I remember there was a moonjump cheat made for the PC version of the game. If you could get to the end of the level and then use moonjump, I wonder if you could test that theory? I'm curious meself so next chance I get to play R2 again...I could be tempted to test it out 🤔

Heh, moonjump? Reminds me of this "beat Rayman Revolution with just 3 jumps" speedrunning:
