Well, bad news for you. Iizuka says he wants the Wisps to be a series staple.
Anyways, I just gotten past Silent Forest, I'll give my thoughts so far.
Positives:
The controls are tight (there's some problems but I'll get to that later)
The music's good
I'm impressed with the story so far, it's a mix of comedy and seriousness, which works really well for Sonic.
The level design is good (But there are problems with it, quite big ones)
Negatives:
The game can get quite frustrating during the later levels
The skating controls are downright terrible(who's idea was it make Sonic unable to kick or homing attack while skating, this made the Zeena fight harder than it really was0.
Parkour is a little finicky.
Some Red Rings are down right frustrating to get (a perfect example would be the 5th one in Silent Forest Act 3, the ring it's self isn't hard to get, but surviving the path is).
Bosses are pathetically easy.
Overall: I'm liking the game, but there are some big problems with it. I think Generations and Colors are better, that could change though.

One guy did a really good rant about that and I agree with him:
He also made these awesome videos:

Am I the only one who doesn't mind the skating controls? Literally all you have to do to Homing Attack/Kick from skating is let go of ZR before you jump (this way, Sonic won't do the ballerina jump, but he will keep his momentum).
And while StephenKnux is cool, I disagree regarding the Wisps, as long as they are optional. Because the more options, the better. If you keep the Wisps in the games as an option, then the people who like them can use them, and the people who don't can just ignore them. If they're doing that, and people are asking for their omition, then those people are just being greedy and selfish.

Really? Thanks for the tip.

So DarkSpinesSonic (popular Sonic speed runner/glitch god on YouTube) has discovered a really neat exploit in the Wii U version of Lost World - Infinite Wall Climbs/Wall Runs. It's real easy - when you jump from a wall while climbing it or running along it, double jump back towards it and you can continue to chain parkour maneuvers together, and get unlimited distance. I believe the Wall Climb variant of this only works in 2D sections, though.
It's helped me pull off some nice speed runs - I'm now 11th place in Desert Ruins Zone 1, 3rd place in Sky Road Zone 4, and 6th place in Lava Mountain Zone 3.

Can it be done in 3DS version?

People in the comments say it can't be done in the 3DS version, as the physics don't allow you to go all Mega Man X in the game.

Another thing to add to the negatives, the Wisp are not very fun and are really gimmicky. The old ones are still fun, but the news one aren't (expect rhythm, I found that surprisingly fun).

I don't really understand why don't people make all games with wall jumping have Mega Man X physics, seeing that Mega Man X is one of the rare games that got it 100 % right.

Hehe, Wall Jumping in 2D Metroid games is hard to master, but blimey is it efficient for speedrunning once you've done so.

Oh god, I got stuck in Super Metroid because there was a part where I was convinced I had to Wall Jump up somewhere, but I couldn't do it consistently enough. Couldn't find another way to progress either. :V

Indeed, it's amazing to see speedrunners do it so effectively, when it's so hard to do it consistently ourselves.
As for Super Metroid, I'm stuck on Ridley, and still can't beat him.

You can actually do that, just release the run button and the target will appear ^^U

emshomar is probably not even aware that people make a difference between Modern and Classic Sonic. To tell you the truth, until 2010 I was not either. It was same to me, until people started complaining about green eyes and boycotting Sonic 4.
