They’re similar but I prefer the N64 version out of the two. Save the better one for later!

Just play it. It might be different though since most versions of the game are slightly different.

Fair warning, the DS version is considered amongst the worst of the Rayman 2 ports as it's ridden with technical problems, it's not one I'd personally recommend. If you get ahold of the N64 version I'd probably go for that.

Aside from Revolution and the PS1 version, all the others generally play out the same way as the original N64 version.

Well except the GBC version but nobody talks about that anyways!

Speaking of other versions, I remembered recently that I had picked up Rayman 3DS a year or so back but haven’t played yet. Not sure what other issues there were aside from the 1000 lum glitch.

I played the 3DS version at the beginning of the year, I documented some of the issues I found on the RayWiki article. In summary, it's fine, but I'd argue it's a diminished port in all. Theres not much I'd say are severe technical issues other than the 1000th lum issues, but there are more technical issues relating to audio and visuals than you might think, and it leaves the overall experience a lot lesser than the source Dreamcast version, and that's not even accounting for the removal of Globox Village and its associated extras.

Why is the physical map for this so expensive! I might have to buy a full CIB copy just for the goddamn map!

It's 1.50$ (usd) because of some random sale!

Yeah this doesn’t surprise me. Too bad, it would have been nice to see Globox Village fr but I guess I’ll have to emulate the DC version for now.

Because there aren't many of them around. Only the early boxed retail copies had a map.

Still, from time to time, it shows up for sale on eBay and the like, without the box, at a reasonable price.

Yeah, it does intrigue me that with the Dreamcast version being held as a sort of "gold standard" when it comes to being a source for later ports, none of the DC-based ports (iOS and 3DS I believe) include Globox Village. There's leftovers from what I've seen, with the path leading to Globox Village in Woods of Light still existing but the trigger to transition removed. I wonder why they felt the need to remove it.

But yeah as it stands, Globox Village is only accessible in the original Dreamcast game, no port since has included it.

It's been so long since I had an iPhone 4 and was able to play the iOS version of Rayman 2, but as far as I remember I was never able to access Globox Village there. So it is kind of curious why they removed it from all its ports.

.....

Something else I remembered from my first time playing Rayman 2 and from listening to this track a moment ago:

Aside from Revolution, I have never heard the last 8 seconds of this track in Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava in any way. The looping where the last few seconds of this track played (from around 40 seconds to 51 seconds) always felt...kind of weird to me.

Well, the 3DS has that bug where the game softlocks when you try to transition from the 1000th Lum room, so I guess something similar happened with the Globox village and they didn't have time to fix it…

It is interesting to note that they physically blocked off access to the path leading to Globox Village in the 3DS version, so I wonder if that was the case. Though I do find it funny that they went through the effort, considering the iOS version still has the path but simply removed the Purple Lum to get there. Whether that implies they wanted to put Globox Village in at some point or not though, I'm not sure.

I didn't see any map for Globox Village in the Raymap listings for iOS and 3DS though, so I imagine it was completely removed from the files?

The path leading to Globox Village for comparison in Raymap:

Well I think in one of Rayman 2 PC port files in physical copy you could watch a trailer of Tonic Trouble. Would it be some sort of deja vu? Did I say this already before or still not, yet?
