< couldn't bring himself to refer to a single known person as "they", even though < does it quite often for unknown people, which isn't technically correct either.

they is perfectly grammatical to use as a single person actually! "she" is alright of course but < does not have scizophrenia thank you very much

What makes ^ think that? That is one of the most perfect instances of calling one person 'they'. They is the genderless pronoun, singular and plural.

< Is on par with the pronoun thing. Sure it bugs < but < doesn't want to make a big fuss over it. Just throwing <'s two cents.
