But you are presuming that people 'let themselves' get sad rather than, you know, get sad. The statement < underlined suggests that you personally are indeed capable of switching off sadness within yourself, but that honestly is something fairly unique. Whether there's benefit or not, whether they want it or not, people in general get sad.

< knows people don't choose whether to be sad or not, and what < meant to say is that < doesn't choose to not be sad either. < thinks it's impossible to just choose what emoton you want to have.

What < means is that things that would normaly get people sad do not get < sad, and it's not because < is a heartless bastard (not that I'm implying that that's your point of course) but because it doesn't make sense to be sad. Just like different people get sad at different things for different reasons, < has little reason to be sad at anything really.

[< sees things very logically and doesn't see the point in being sad, it's not going to solve anything and will just make your life worse for however long you are sad, it does no good.

< understands what ^ means, but < doesn't necessarily see it as pointless or as a 'logically' superior path. Experiencing pain in order to understand and appreciate your full range of feeling and emotion, it develops/opens your mind. Truthfully, unless you've "been there", you can't properly comprehend it and the effects it can have on you, but in a sense, ignorance is bliss.
