Adsolution wrote:^Great song, innit? I've always wanted to write something like that, it's one of my favourites from Showbiz - the final chorus gets me every time. It's so serene and bluesy, yet so original and fiercely Muse in its execution, I sometimes don't know how they managed to pull that off in their earlier albums, it's almost magical. Some of their live gigs from that era were so raw they were almost emotional to watch, you could really see the feeling that was put into these songs.
Oi, yes, this is one of my favourites off of Showbiz, and definitely one of the songs that most stuck with me at first. I love it's inclusion on the album - I remember going into this album expecting it to basically be 40 minutes of Sober, but instead this just comes in so unexpectedly and completely grabbed my attention. And like you said, it still captures the familiar Muse sound which keeps it from feeling out of place.
Showbiz is general is a really likable era for me, and I really fail to see why some people tend to label the album as a very generic, typical debut album. Instrumentally they've definitely done better in everything that came after, but the sound they were going for feels perfectly achieved and there's so many sweet little moments throughout the whole thing.

A little bit... "Jagged" I guess, but still catchy nonetheless.

I’m currently listening to FRKNGRVN.MID, a file hidden in the Driver19.cab file on the Windows 98 disc.

I thought the same thing at first. I think a lot of people label it as a generic debut due to it sort of giving you that vibe if you just casually flip to somewhere random on the album. A lot of the 'harder' parts have a similar sound to them, but it's the way they're weaved together that makes you realise that each piece on the album is completely different from the last, as well as very memorable.

This one is interesting for me, because while I tend not to list it as one of my favourites on the album, it's one of the ones I respect the most, and I can never quite place my finger on why. Maybe because it really takes its time. I think it almost feels like a very early pilot to their more experimental styles later on.

Holy shit, nostalgia. I love how at the end the mother tries to add a "it was you all along" moral but Mama's like "kthx this is nice gloss tho"

DBZ/Kai Soundtrack: Only A Chilling Elegy (Frieza's theme)
One of the many reasons I live DBZ Kai is because they began the final scene of the episode with a dramatically intense build-up of this song while Frieza was just looking back and forth deciding who to kill first and in what way, and then ended the episode with those reverberated voices shouting about death and freezing while Krillin is being impaled on Frieza's devilish horn; then Doc Morgan is narrating how "In the blink of an eye, Frieza has brutally claimed his first victim".
I love this song because, while it doesn't even begin to explain how sadistic and condescending Frieza can be, the song does explain all the actions Frieza loves and how he prefers to treat his enemies and allies alike. Personally, listening to this song gives me a gruesome and malevolent picture of all the things Frieza likes:
He likes the sight of the sky being overcome by darkness, the sight of the stars falling out of the sky, the blinding fireworks of an exploding planet, the feeling of flowers withering and crunching beneath his feet, the sounds of an entire race crying out in agony and despair, the sight of an entire galaxy hopelessly bowing down with him as their king, and the thought of the entire universe freezing over to match his sub-zero personality.
I find the fact that this is about some cartoon horses amusing, surprising and epic at the same time.

Say what you will about Cocorosie, but this is a damn good session. I've been using it for technical drills recently. I have a soft spot for quite a few of their older songs too.
