< thinks you misunderstood...?Adsolution wrote:< pointed out a couple of days ago how, for some reason, everyone feels the need to announce whenever they have or obtain tea specifically, and that < rarely sees people post about opening a can of pop, a bag of crisps or drinking water.Ambidextroid wrote:< wonders what ^'s point was?
When < said "chippy tea", < meant tea as in dinner. Chippy tea is just dinner from the chippy, as in a batch of fish and chips.
< got to play TF2 with an old friend today, yay!

No matter what, < will never stand to hear dinner referred to as 'tea'. < will do a genocide crusade if necessary.

It is clear the ^^ is a very prejudiced and not intolerant person, but, since < is an unprejudiced and accepting person, < accepts ^^

< thinks it must be an old conservatism saying, not dissimilar to rednecks calling taverns 'honkey-tonks' just hecause they used to have those in them, except 'tea' is even more nonsensical.PluMGMK wrote:< hardly ever hears it IRL anymore.

< usually refers to tea-time as an afternoon meal, < usually uses supper and dinner interchangeably. < isn't fond of how some use dinnertime to refer to lunch.

< missed a discussion that < would have loved to be part of!
Like Serza "tea" is a family thing, "dinner" for friends. "Tea" is in many ways the True Name of the evening meal. In Blighty at least, kids often have dinner early in the day (between 4.30 and 6pm), which encompasses part of the traditional period for teatime. That usage never fully goes away
