Hm, Cobi doing a review? I don't think I've seen him do something like that, I'll give it a watch sometime, though with opinions on Lost World being "up and down and all around," something tells me I'd have to play it for myself to truly get it.

I totally agree, it really is a "play it yourself" kind of game.

In fact, in the near future (as I'm doing my Lost World playthrough), I plan to make a "Sonic Lost World For Dummies!" video (the title is just a joke :P), that basically gives an in-depth explanation of how the controls and mechanics work. I think it could really help newcomers.

Ah yes, the ill-fated Sonic Xtreme, I recall reading about Metal Sonic being a planned boss, but I've not seen footage of it, thanks for sharing, OCG.

So I have been watching the back catalog of Game Theory episodes, and watched the one that says Sonic is slower than Mario.

Not to sound fanboyish, but it is actually a very easy theory to disprove! :V

Have a look if you guys want to figure it out:

Sonic Generations in Oculus Rift? Given the sense of speed it gives, couldn't that be dangerous?

He said in first games. I did not hear him say Mario is faster than Sonic in every game ever made.
How can you disprove other thongs? I am curious to know.

So I only realised today that an EU demo for Lost World was available. So I downloaded the 3DS demo and tried it out.

In terms of the controls, it was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Sonic has a more free rotation than he does in the Wii U version. And he can land from a double jump and still continue a spin dash. And the parkour does carry you farther (not counting the Infinite Wall Run/Climb exploit in the Wii U version). However, it's more limited in terms of what you can do on particular walls (as in, if a wall is facing the camera, you can only run up it, not alongside it). The Power Sneakers power-up is also really cool.

The one thing that did bug me though, was that the Spin Dash is mapped to the Y button, and not the L button. This makes precision movement while spin dashing more difficult than it should be, as it actually made my hand a little sore to constantly hold Y (I have an orignal Aqua Blue 3DS, so this may not be as much of an issue for 3DS XL owners).

Also, the tutorials are MUCH better than they are in the Wii U version. They detail everything perfectly.

The level design was really good in the two levels you can play. No complaints for them. But it is the later levels that everyone complains about.

I think I will definitely get this ASAP, because I am certainly curious, and I'd love to play online. Even if I end up hating the later levels, I do want the game anyway to have in my collection. My brother may be getting it for me as a Christmas present anyway, so at least I can't feel ripped off.

.....Also, the demo save carries over to the full game...so I life-grinded. I now have 99 lives (the maximum amount) ready for the full game. :V

----------------------------------

@OCG: MatPat used Modern Sonic's height (he actually didn't need to look up anything on Wiki Answers - it's been confirmed in various official bios that Sonic is 110cm tall) to measure the length of Green Hill Act 1.
However, Sonic 1 has CLASSIC Sonic. And as we see in Sonic Generations, Classic Sonic is half the height of Modern Sonic. The Classic Sonic in Generations is the same Sonic from Sonic 1 (this is why Generations opens by dumping you straight into Green Hill Zone Act 1 - just like Sonic 1), and then we see the Time Eater capture Classic Sonic and put him in White Space.
And if Classic Sonic is half the size of Modern Sonic, and Small Mario is a little over this, then technically, Sonic in Sonic 1 is shorter than Mario in Super Mario Bros. This blows MatPat's theory out of the water.

And to add to that, there is also the issue of the level design - World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros is literally a straight line to the right. It is possible to complete the level without letting go of the right button, and without having to shift your momentum any. In Green Hill Zone Act 1, however, this is not possible - even in the most up to date speed runs (the world record time is not 19 seconds anymore - so MatPat was not even using the fastest possible run of GHZ Act 1 as a basis for his calculations), you still have to pass through a shuttle loop, and the "S Tunnel" near the end of the level - this interrupts Sonic's movement to the right on occasion. This instantly renders the comparison unfair.

And there is also the issue of scale - Mario and Sonic's worlds may not exactly be the same scale - for example, Kirby is only 8 inches high, canonically. But you wouldn't be able to tell from just playing his games. He looks bigger than Small Mario, yet there is no way he could be. And regarding the Sonic/Mario comparison, you may also notice that the camera in Super Mario Bros is more zoomed out in general in comparison to the original Sonic the Hedgehog - which makes it even more difficult to compare distances in their worlds. Small Mario may be bigger than he looks in actuality. And Sonic is confirmed to be smaller than he looks in actuality, in Sonic 1.

Sometimes, I'm glad I never got accepted onto Sonic Retro.

It's great for news and mods and fan games and what not, but sometimes the community is just....uuuuuugh.

Also, sorry for the bump, the topic went quiet, and I doubt there will be any actual news for a while now.

Hm, I still consider Sonic Retro better than Sonic Stadium and Sega forums.

Hm, doesn't have the same feel to be a fully fledged game to me, looks like something more casual, though time will tell I guess.

It's actually just a teaser for Sonic Dash FINALLY coming to Android. :V

That little Sonic is actually Sonic's face slapped onto the Android mascot. And the font is the Sonic Dash font (matches up with the appearance of the word "Dash"). And that hill is from a promo render for Sonic Dash.

Ah, the endless runner app? Meh, not my cuppa tea in general, but I guess it'll be to the tastes of some.

At this point, I think everyone is just curious about why it took them so long to move it over to Android. Every other mobile Sonic game did not take long to come to Android.

And I played it on my brother's old iPhone. It's honestly my favourite endless runner app. I'll likely get use out of it. Though my phone struggles with Fiesta Run, so I'm not sure if it will handle this...

My favourite runner is Pepsiman but Sonic Dash is from the ones on phone.

Sonic Dash is a fun game. I don't play it much, but as an endless-runner, it gets it's job done.
