Which is bad, because...? Wouldn't it be easier to come out if you had your parents to look up to? < doesn't see the big deal. But < guesses it makes sense in that guy's experience.

< says that he said the different reactions of his parents prepared him and "toughened him up" for the reactions he would get in the world. Of course, those too should be changing as the generations progress.

Yeeeah < isn't really a fan of the 'tough love' argument. Especially since statistically LGBT teens are more likely to survive and succeed if their home environment is a supportive one - not that het parents can't be supportive, of course. Besides, the more non-hetero carers there are, the less likely existing prejudices are to continue.
