In the hope to finally start a decent conversation, what kind of dancing do you do anyway? < thought you took up some new classes lately. Modern dancing was it? How did you like them, or haven they yet to start? And < thought < heard ^^ mention belly dancing before, but < isn't quite as sure about that.

Something that's helped < out on warm nights is a wet washcloth on <'s forehead. The coldness on your forehead is quite pleasant, although < must warn you, your pillow might end up getting a little wet as well.

@Imco, < had to stop the contemporary since it was a real pain to get to the venue, plus family stuff got in the way so there was no real point continuing. But yeah, <'s training in Arabic dance (primarily Egyptian but < loves Iraqi too) and working towards a career, inshallah

Mmm, this whole being-a-dancer idea, is that something you've wanted for a long time? Especially Egyptian dancing, < knows pretty much nothing about that, except the belly dancing, unless that's all there is to it of course.
Don't mind my question, but how exactly can one have a career in Egyptian dancing? Just asking from <'s formerly stated inexperience with Egyptian dance.

Imco darling. < is finding this hard to explain without going into the politics of it all, but basically 'bellydance' is an umbrella term for a wide array of dances originating in (or inspired by those originating in) the Middle East, particularly those sprung from the Egyptian prestige form Raqs Sharqi. < prefers to use the term 'bellydance' very sparingly: it's inaccurate and loaded with connotations. The one benefit to the term is that without it, there would be no way to link American Fusion styles to the authentic MENA styles. But that's a topic for another day!

<'s mother is a Western dancer, so < grew up with an understanding of artistic movement. < didn't really have any passion to go into dance until recently, probably because Western dancers tend to need to train consistently from childhood. Egyptian requires dedication, effortless isolation, improvisational skills and cultural awareness, but it doesn't demand a certain body type or a regimen. < doesn't really know what to say other than that < loves it and < loves the music that feeds it.

A professional career in any form of bellydance principally involves work in middle-eastern clubs or restaurants, parties, increasingly stage work... the risks involved in the trade are understandably quite large, particularly if you're a woman, and < will never not have anxiety about <'s choice. But < knows < is passionate, and that's where it starts.

Yeah, sorry about the whole bellydance generalisation, < is not a dance expert, quite the opposite in fact. Well, as long as you pursue your dreams, <'s happy for you! < himself is a terrible dancer, luckily that's not so important at parties, but if you think you can make it in this industry, please continue your dancing lessons, keep practising, keep getting better!

< guesses <'s music obsession is somewhat similar. Although, < doesn't see < doing any work in the music industry, whether in movies, or whatever. It's just a hobby of <. < wouldn't mind more side jobs though, like the Mario Party Medley < made. It really prompted < to push himself a little farther then normal, and it's a great thing to see whatever one can accomplish when exploring unknown territories.

Anyway, < would tell you to keep pushing yourself farther, although that might be a dangerous thing to say. < would presume you know where your own boundaries lay, though. Long story short, please continue pursuing your dreams, drag yourself into new things, but most importantly, have fun doing so! < will do the same

< wouldn't mind doing this as a hobby, but with <'s condition < best suits night employment so it's also a money-driven decision. Not purely of course, you have to absolutely love the dance in order to consider jobbing it (in this country anyway), but that's what tilted < in favour of professional work. < thinks that you have a fantastic base to work from if you decide to make your music more than a hobby, or even just for those 'side jobs' as you call them.
