Hmm, you're right, I do remember some rows and columns being hidden in the MK Wii roster before I started unlocking characters, so fair point.
Argh, what sucks is that ever since the Rosalina Smash announcement, I've been craving to see the likes of Kirby in MK, funny the effect one red herring can have, huh?

I honestly feel the same. Still annoyed about that "characters you won't have expected" comment Iwata made when revealing the Koopalings. They were totally expected. I thought it was going to be guest characters when he said that.
As I've said before, they may as well start adding them. There aren't a lot of big hitting and hugely popular Mario characters to appear in the series yet. Rosalina was really the last big newcomer that was really well received. The rest have been more niche or outright uninspired (they really did not need all seven Koopalings. Especially if it means Bowser.Jr is gone. He hasn't been announced yet). I think Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach are really lazy additions, and were likely only ever added to even out the roster in light of running short on time.
Also, for those curious as to what the 10 free game options are:

Also, they used the word "campaign" when talking about a Kirby game. And intentionally swam to their death at one part.
Clearly, the person reviewing a game was a huge FPS fanboy. Usage of word campaign already says it

Hmm, not a bad selection for a freebie, very interesting to see the likes of Lost World and WWHD in there.

I think it's cool that they put two games aimed at older gamers on there (Wonderful 101 and Monster Hunter), despite MK8 being family-oriented. Shows that they do recognise that their games interest an older crowd.
Also, the thought that they may do a similar promotion for Smash Bros excites me.

The Metal characters are really disappointing additions (just like Queen Bee in MK7, which I never understood why was she in there), but good to see that the Mii is back.
Also, big "YES" to see DS' Wario Stadium and DS' Tick Tock Clock back. The latter especially since it is one of my favourite tracks from Mario Kart DS (and unexplainably why, it was not playable online).
I pre-ordered the limited edition so I shall get it in the very start of June.
A free game for registering? I have no idea what to pick because my profile of collector prefers retail copies. Maybe I would pick Game & Wario but I really don't know.

I heared that one is not so good and it got mixed reviews not just by IGN but others too.
Wonderful 101 is what I would get if I had such chance, but hey, I am just giving my thoughs and you can get anything you decide of course.

Game & Wario had poor reviews? In that case I'll avoid it.
Wii Party U is more fun in group so I will not get it.
So the only options I have is Pikmin 3 or The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD. I have no idea what to pick.

Well, these are most of reviews and scores:

Both Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD are great.

I think I'll get Wind Waker HD since I never played a Pikmin game so I don't know what to expect from it despite of the good reviews. With a Zelda game I know what to expect though.

Just a suggestion, but would it not make more sense to pay for Wind Waker HD sometime in the future, since you're pretty much positive you'll like it, and take Pikmin 3 as the freebie for MK8 seeing as it's more a game you are just curious about?
Not only that, but from a collector's standpoint, not only would you have a copy of a game you don't like sitting on your shelf if you decided to buy Pikmin 3 and didn't find it enjoyable, but you would miss out on owning a game you might really like in a physical format (or you'd have to pay for separate physical copy, making the freebie redundant in the end).
Just a thought that came to my head.

I've been considering that possibility too. At least I still have time to think.

I really like Triple Deluxe's final boss, seems like they took a break from the usual horror stuff, and instead came up with a more regal and refined kind of final boss, though even they have their own little creepy undertones.

I haven't them because I'm trying to break the habit of spoiling myself, but I'll take your word for it.
Also thanks for showing me Zero. Gotta say one of my favorite lookin' Kirby bosses.

Huh, I thought it was Roles who I showed Zero to, though I guess given the nature of a public forum, anyone here could've seen it. Anyways, glad to hear the Bloody Eyeball was to your appeal, hehe.

The Mario Kart 8 roster is terrible. The Koopalings take up way too many spaces and I don't know, but I don't recall them ever being popular. I don't really like them to be honest. And Baby Rosaline, come on now.
I absolutely love the retro stages though, great choice to fancy up the more boring tracks, and I'm really happy to see some tracks like Sherbet Land and Wario Stadium return. Do wish think they missed a couple good ones though: Wario Shipwreck, Mushroom City/Bridge, and Toad's Factory are all tracks I'd like to have seen, and can we take a moment to realise how fantastic it would have been if they hadn't used Waluigi's Pinball on MK7. Either way though, in terms of tracks this is shaping up to be one of the most engaging and appealing games in the series.

I'm really not concerned with the MK8 roster. A lot of people say it's terrible, but in all honesty, the roster can't be spectacular without throwing in Kirby or Captain Falcon or somebody into the mix. Rosalina and Funky Kong in MKWii were really the last big, fan favourite characters, every other one has just been "hey look, it's a Koopa" or "a Lakitu" or whatever. I'm fine with Baby Rosalina, and I don't understand the hate against her and other Baby characters. Mario Kart is not Smash Bros. The roster is pretty unimportant. And the game is aimed at kids and families, as opposed to the teen-adult audience of Smash. Little girls will love the idea of Baby Rosalina, just as kids have enjoyed the other Baby characters. I think it's adorable that a parent and child can play as Adult and Baby versions of characters respectively.
I dislike Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach, and while I think we only really needed 2 or 3 of the Koopalings, I suppose they'd feel incomplete without all seven.
Plus, I'm confident this is not the final roster. If they aren't gonna be unlockables, there will be DLC. And there are already hints that Birdo is playable.
