I accidentally bought a Lost World poster while shopping for wrapping paper. Totally worth it.

-Unique intro stage depicting Sonic arriving in Soleanna (this was necessary, as this mod is eventually intended to have a replacement for every stage in Generations. This stage replaces Green Hill Zone Act 1).
-Instead of Generations cutscenes, you get Sonic 06 cutscenes (to explain the technical aspect of this, this is impressive, as it's been discovered that you don't have to actually replace cutscenes per se. You can include as many cutscene files as you want in a mod. If you wanted to make your own mod with a story, the cutscenes don't have to match the amount that are in Generations).
-The modder has gotten event triggers to work. This is groundbreaking for the modding community (for an example of this, the modder showed off a video where he replicated the event from Radical Train where you lose a life if Elise's train crashes).
-All 3 HUB worlds from Sonic 06 replace the Generations HUB world. They are linked together as one map, so no loading times to travel between each one.
-Physics changes to make the levels play better.
-Various aesthetic changes, such as Red Rings being the Silver Medals of Soleanna, and the level entrances being the Mirrors of Soleanna.
-All of the levels from Sonic 06 are intended to be included in the full mod (this is only a demo, so it hasn't got every stage). I believe the modder has plans for Shadow and Silver's story too.
-Super short loading times!
-Like all mods, you can play this with all of the benefits from Generations in tact (such as Skills being available, and by extension, Super Sonic).
There's probably more, but I haven't played the mod yet. I'm getting a laptop that will likely run Generations very soon, so I'll get to play it myself then.

Hm, so they were able to go break the forced structure of Generations, fascinating. I'll keep an eye out for this then.

Many people said Sonic 06 had potential. This mod will be perfect for showing game's good sides. Although I wish for proper remake done on same Sonic 06 engine but just better design, no glitches, no stupid missions, less loading times, better map.

Well, you've got the gameplay side covered, now all that needs to be done is the refinement of visuals, vocals, story and probably some other aspects which escape me.

I don't want an official remake of Sonic 06, and it's never going to happen, as Sega clearly wants to forget it exists, sans including Crisis City in Generations.
But this mod is intriguing. To Sonic 06's credit, some of the level design was actually excellent, it's just that the game was so buggy and the controls so horrendous that it never really shined.
I'm mainly interested in this mod because it is technically innovative for the Sonic Generations modding community.

Indeed, though I'm curious, will they fix the Forest hub world? If memory serves it was rather barren and cumbersome.

Sonic can move an awful lot faster in Generations compared to 06, so the big open space in the middle won't be annoying, as you can traverse it in like, 3 seconds or so, I'm sure. Most things in the mode though, regarding level geometry, are straight ports.

Hm, so what about the normal levels, I'm assuming they've then been tweaked to accommodate his greater speed, right?

They seem to be of a bigger scale, relative to Sonic. And then there is an included mod that changes Sonic's parameters to make him handle better at low speeds. And there are some tweaked areas to embrace the Generations style of play, as well as cutting down on combat.

Hm, so there have been tweaks to accommodate it, but for the most part, they're trying to be more faithful and less adaptive?

Much like the Unleashed Project, this mod is a port that is meant to push technical boundaries and further develop the possibilities we have for modding. It's not trying to focus on level design, except for the added intro stage (especially since anyone who would download this mod has likely played the levels already in Sonic 06), but the modder is of course making the levels fully playable. So it should be fun enough to play. Technically speaking though, this mod is doing some new things, which should hopefully help others make their own original content for the game. Maybe one day, someone will make a Generations mod that is essentially a whole new fan game, with cutscenes animated in Source Filmmaker or in Flash.

I see, so for fun, but also to push forward and drive new inventions and ideas, that's a pretty good stance indeed.

While it may not be the most reliable source, check out Sony Pictures Animation's Wikipedia page.

There are two untitled films that are coming, one in 2016 and one in 2017. Granted, this may far-fetched, but after I saw a comment on the TSSZ, it's seems rather interesting.

Notice how the two untitled films are almost exactly a year apart.
It's too early to say, obviously, but imagine if they are actually planning to make more than one Sonic movie. Like, making a follow up if the first is successful.
