+ It's great to see Shrooblord back on spamming/I mean checking a great quantity of topics with rants/I mean constructive comments.
+ Lovemetal got his ass destroyed by Hunch at AOE II tonight. But it seems that Hunch's brother is even better than him...jeez'...
+ Watched a great part of the League Of Legends Season 4 World Championship Finals. Although I found the opening show to be less impressive that I would have imagined it to be, it was surely because it happened in the end of the afternoon in a very big stadium on the contrary to last year where it was in a confined arena with every single seat occupied. But apparently the closing ceremony was terrific. Gotta watch this one.
-/+ Tomorrow, first interview for a job. I don't know if I am really excited for dis :?.

- I encountered the slightest bit of blood in my urine earlier, but I'm talking about a tiny dribble after I had already finished, as well as that it didn't hurt at all. Luckily, I've managed to get a few answers from folks making it clear that I most likely don't have any serious problems, and I don't have any of the symptoms of the most likely reason. Still, gonna inform my parents tomorrow and see if it happens again just to be safe.

+ After a long period of sucking ass at guitar lessons, I'm feeling well prepared for the upcoming one.

+ Got to talk a little bit to my friend's girlfriend. She's actually a super sweet person.

+ Talked a lot with my girlfriend about what I already wrote. Seems that aside from what I already thought was not that great, it's good...for now :P.
+ Played League with my two brothers and a friend of oen of them. We had an insane amount of fun between great moves, troll, and fails.

ZBrush seems like such an interesting tool, but I can't invest the money in using it. Have fun learning about it in your training, Ruka!

As if I've invested the money into learning 3ds Max.

+ I'm finally going to start learning Clair de Lune tonight - I can't play piano and not know that piece! I've decided to hold off Prelude in G minor for my ARCT.

Ya but there's the difference in our development style; I don't want to use any pirated software in my creations - what if I want to sell them later (I know, the Rayman game is an exception, but it's the principle I guess)?

+/- Watching Mulan right now. I'm feeling incredibly emotional when watching it. It's helping me get some shit outta my system. :')

Well, then you buy the software before you sell. Realistically, as long as you buy it at one point or another, you're not harming their company one bit, and in principle, it's no different. Hence why their free student edition is the exact same as the full edition aside from being non-commercial. The only difference in getting a head start is that you can actually start learning now so by the time you buy it, you'll actually be very proficient at the software, and you won't be starting from scratch "then".

Pirating software has no inherent principle. What people choose to do with it does.

I have a different principle for softwares I know can be helpful:
- Not too expensive: I buy them.
- Too expensive: I don't buy them until I have the money to do so :p.

Software wise, I would never pay more than $10. And even then I pay only if it is something I would use often.
Cracking, keygens are the way to go for editing videos programs since they ask over $300 usaually which is insane.
Shrooblord wrote:what if I want to sell them later (I know, the Rayman game is an exception, but it's the principle I guess)?
If you want to sell the game that has 100% original content and not a fangame with already established trademarks, why would using cracked version of program for making prevent you from selling it?

Because legal issues? What if I were to steal someone's canvas and steal someone's paint and then make a masterpiece with those? The work of art was made with stolen goods; it came forth out of crime and thus propagates the crime. If I were able to sell that painting, I'd be rewarded for stealing; I'd be paid for stealing. Your dad's a lawyer, right? Ask him about the matter and tell us what he thinks (no, genuinely, do, I'm interested in hearing from one who has studied these sorts of issues).

OCG, you completely bypassed the whole 'principle' thing in question.
OldClassicGamer wrote:Cracking, keygens are the way to go for editing videos programs since they ask over $300 usaually which is insane.
Not really. Considering you'll probably be using them every day for years on end, $300 is absolutely nothing to compensate for the privileges it gives you.
saerleiya wrote:I have a different principle for softwares I know can be helpful:

That's not really a different principle, that's actually essentially what I was describing. Buy it when you have the money to, but pirate it now in order to get a head start on learning it - it's like financing a product at your own discretion. What if you don't have the money for another five or ten years? You'll have just wasted five or ten years doing absolutely nothing.

I completely see your point, but regarding legality, using any assets created with pirated software is basically not doable. You'll need to recreate assets 'based on' the ones you made in pirated software, i.e. recreate them from scratch using the old ones as 'sketches' only, or throw them out altogether. Playing around with pirated software is 'fine' (you know it isn't, but, you know, relatively speaking) - selling stuff made from pirated software is not.

Of course, when speaking about games made with previously copyrighted Intellectual Property (i.e. what you and I do, Ad), matters get a whole lot more complicated 'cause we're being cheeky and illegal from the start. I even wonder sometimes how passable copyrighted music is if it is made with the intention to go with a fan-made game.
