Huh, Rayman Fortress? Anyone a good Source modder? :P
- After Rayman 2 and before Rayman 3 there was a prototype that got developed and it would have been the real sequel to R2 and it was called Rayman 2000. It would consist in an opened world with houses, cities and roads built in trees, like some known R3 artwork shows to us. Although the project was dropped, it was not fully lost because these elements were used for the Animated Series. It explains why Razoff ressembles those Aeropolis inhabitants.
Huh, an open world game, eh? What I've been wanting to see out of the Rayman series for eons (well, that and Metroidvania, one of the two will do me fine). Pity it didn't come to be, but at least the concept was realised in BG&E.
- The name of R3 and Beyond Good and Evil's engine is called Jade Engine
Hmm, Wikipedia has an article on that engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jade_(game_engine)
Don't know what this means though, in terms of the R3 Engine supposedly being an improved R2 engine, though it'd be astounding if it were the case, given the lifespan it's had, all those games being rooted with Rayman 2.

On the DSi version, his voice is so twisted and mangled due to pitch-shifting, he sounds a lot cooler:

Incredible. If two of my favourite games ever merged, I think I would die on the spot.

Can anyone tell me where can I find the English Edition one, because I'm no expert in French. I've scoured all over Google and not one site would lead me to it, except only one in French: http://www.editionspixnlove.com/Les-Ser ... e.tpl.html

Yep, no english version so far. It's not gonna happen this year I'm afraid. You'll have to be patient, sorry.

The English book is not out yet, and there's no prediction of when it is going to happen.

Jade was probably developped first with TT and R2, then Ubisoft improved it slowly but surely with each following game. It's possible that the overall structure of it was already great so its use was still great on more recent games. I guess Ubisoft will use UbiArt Framework for several other games in the near future (for now, I can remember RO, RL, and Child of Light if I am not mistaken).

Actually, the first game that used the Jade engine was Beyond Good & Evil (it's the game it was made for!), and the first Rayman game that used it was RRR. Neither Rayman 2, TT or Rayman 3 used it. If this book says Rayman 3 uses the Jade engine, then I'm pretty sure it is wrong. It may use some ideas also used in the Jade engine, yes, but Rayman 3's engine has much more in common with Rayman 2's, which has absolutely nothing in common with the Jade engine.

I'm also sure it don't uses Jade Engine, because else it would be on Wikipedia too.

I also noticed that some of the Rayman Legends pictures have 'Rayman Origins' written next to them :P
Oh, and I think it's funny that both RaymanPC and Raytunes are stated in the sites at one of the last pages :P

Uuuuups I'm sorry, I mixed things up. Thanks for the reminder.

You're right, but not completely (and Haruka too):
Ubisoft Montpellier and Montreuil (Paris) worked on R3, the former using JADE to work on it as they were taking care of BG&E at that moment. The latter, not being able to catch up with JADE, worked with AN IMPROVED VERSION OF THE R2's ENGINE. This engine will be the one used at the end, as Montreuil was the place in charge of the creation of the game.

I also found a few more incoherences:
Haruka wrote:- The game was initially thought to work in a First-Person mode, not in Third-Person mode
Nope. The game was initially planned to be Third-Person, but as Olivier Dauba (lead gameplay programmer) said, he developped a FP mode because he was playing a lot of Half-Life (and not Team Fortress :p), but they decided not to include it into the game at the end because of a lack of time.
Haruka wrote:Madame Min
Do you mean "Mim"?
Haruka wrote:- The Mawpaw would have more uses in the game but he ended up appearing only in the intro
Exactly, and they were planning to do so by diversifying the types of Mawpaw you would have been able to meet during the game.

I also would like to add the fact that the thing which triggers the take-off of the final version of R3 we all know was scenarist David Neiss finding a weird name for the villain, André. It was one year before the official release of the game.

Thanks for the fixes, saer. Motormike also already cleared the first-person thing. I don't know what made people jump to the Team Fortress conclusion while I talked about Half-Life...

I jumped to Team Fortress conclusion because Mike mentioned it himself at one point:
Motormike wrote:"The game was initially thought to work in a First-Person mode, not in Third-Person mode"
Nope ^^ It was just a special mode that was made 'for fun' cause the guys were playing too much Team Fortress.
In the end, it is still minor detail.

It was Half-Life indeed, like I wrote in the book. Don't know why I wrote TF here. Maybe I wanted to play it unconsciously :D

I read the Raving Rabbids chapter yesterday night. More interviews but there aren't real novelties. With the exception...

- Rayman 4's original plot was going to be Rayman having to help an accidented kid by bringing new body parts back, but the idea was dropped when Michel Ancel suggested about Raving Rabbids invading the world.
- The original R4 would have an opened world scenario.
- Rayman 4 would have a female human character under the name of Cielle. It is not known/specified it she was going to be playable or not but there's an artwork of her (which I sadly cannot show) with Rayman side to her. Rayman had a different outfit too.
- RRR was done in just 4 months in order to arrive in time for the Nintendo Wii's release. The console tests revealed to be more satisfatory for a party game than for an adventure game, which would be very time consuming. The production of R4 was being originally created for PS2 but because of the Wii they had to reinvent everything.
- Robot-Pirates from Rayman 2 were about to make a return in R4 (!).

At a point where Xavier Poix was interviewed about details of R4, he apparently did a grin while saying that he could not reveal anything more since he couldn't deny the fact that some contents could be used in a future Rayman game (!). Also, I think Ubisoft was about to give up in the Rayman franchise after the first RRR game, because of the lack of space of Rayman for the market (gamers were prefering war games, etc) but they pointed they only continued thanks to the fans.

And I think I didn't forget anything else.

I have found some scan previews on this page. Some guy maxoups59 scanned them it seems. I am leaving link and who wants to see them can see them. I am not affiliated with this person and I am sharing link just for educational purpose and am not endorsing anything:

He only scanned 6 pages though so I guess it is not too much possible to damage sales.

Artist's impression of scrapped Rayman 4 character.

Neh, 4 months, no wonder RRR1 felt so rushed.
