Re: Languages
I talk to myself in French all the time
Re: Languages
I still don't even know Irish properly. I want to try learn it for the sake of it, even though reality is that we will always speak English anyway. I'd have mentioned before that I was learning Swedish because I lived there for the best part of 3 years, but it's not really going to be useful to me in Ireland either.
Re: Languages
I've been learning Turkish 1 and a half years, I quit learning Mandarin 2 years ago because I got bored by it and then I kinda learned nothing in particular for about a half year or so.

Re: Languages
Not sure if I've asked you this before, but I noticed you use the singular they a lot in English now – is that because Swedish doesn't have masculine and feminine pronouns?Steo wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 3:14 pm I still don't even know Irish properly. Re: Languages
If you guys could revive one extinct language, what would it be?
Re: Languages
I guess it's not strictly extinct, but I'd revive Egyptian Coptic.Greengoop wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 4:34 pm If you guys could revive one extinct language, what would it be?

Re: Languages
I’d go for Pictish. Unless the theory that it’s 2 separate unrelated languages is true.
Re: Languages
So I struck a nerve huh when I namedropped the Pictish

Re: Languages
I feel like Latin might get a revival somehow one day.
Re: Languages
Technically it's still used but ecclesian latin isn't the same as classical latin. I hope classical latin will get a revival but we don't know their pronunciation. Maybe AI can figure that out through the use of text or the evolution of specific sounds through history.

Re: Languages
Ancient Egyptian sounds awesome from what I’ve heard of it being spoken.
Re: Languages
I know right!? It's incredibly interesting to me.

Re: Languages
Any thoughts on reviving esperanto?
Re: Languages
No because I don't like the thought of it being an artificial language.
Yes, I am aware that technically, every language is artificial but you know what I mean.

Re: Languages
Do we really need AI? I think the human-reconstructed pronunciation we have is plausible enough already (I say not being a professional linguist, so maybe it's the Dunning-Kruger Effect in actionRsandee wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 4:48 pm Technically it's still used but ecclesian latin isn't the same as classical latin. PTSD intensifies!!!
Re: Languages
I have no idea. I thought we still had no idea how certain words were pronounced but I never really dug into Latin myself.

Re: Languages
I still dont get why we don’t make this as the world’s official language.
