Hello, and nice to meet you all! I didn't really know what to set my name as, so it is kind of random; I don't have a preference for what you decide to call me.


My first experience with Rayman was when Rayman Legends was free on the Epic Games Store in 2019. I only really had experience playing Nintendo platformers up to this point (I was rather close-minded with what games I played), so the movement mechanics and art style were incredibly refreshing and I ended up loving the experience a lot---at least of what I played at the time. I only played to the end of the first world (Teensies in Trouble, collecting everything in each stage without the invasion through replays) since my computer was hardly able to handle having the Epic Games Store open, making launching the game extremely difficult. In the following year, prior to the pandemic, I ended up picking up Rayman Origins for the Wii used in a GameStop (I believe this was right before they stopped selling Wii games), which I decided I would play instead of Rayman Legends so I could play them in order. I gradually exposed myself to all of the mainline games and spin-offs through websites and media, though not first-hand experience.

I've known about this site ever since I discovered the RayTunes player and would infrequently visit since it was the best source of Rayman music I could find on the internet. In my interaction with it, I've ended up going through the other resources attached to this community such as the RayWiki and scouring the forums as a guest. Despite my growing interest in the franchise, I have yet to really commit to finishing one of the games: I own all of the mainline games (1-3, Origins, and Legends) and have not progressed past the second world in any of them (besides Rayman Origins*) since I am too afraid to commit to finishing them. What I mean by that is I've had Rayman 1 and 2 installed for multiple years, and every time I have wanted to play them, I play through Pink Plant Woods / the introductory stage of Rayman 2 and then stop, awaiting a "better time" to continue playing since I don't want to spoil the rest for myself when I don't know if I will commit to finishing.

*(I have progressed pretty far in Rayman Origins, however, I stopped around the revisit of Gourmand Land / Sea of Serendipity due to tedium of constantly killing myself to collect everything in a single run.)


I mainly wanted to join this forum to share my growing passion for the games and to interact with other people who are interested in Rayman. My hope is to finally commit to playing and finishing Rayman 1, then 2, 3, and so on, as I have more time available to me around this time of year.

I had started writing more specifically about Rayman 1, but I'll save it for a separate post in the Rayman 1 forum instead. I apologize if this is hard to read; I will try to learn better formatting to improve readability in the future.

Mmmm, am I correct to assume you tend to lose interest/focus on a game after a long period of time? I’d suggest hitting milestones that are realistic for you then and doing things a little at a time in that case, rather than trying to finish the games all at once. Good luck and have fun when you decide to go for them!

As a fellow completionist, I know how it feels to want to continue in a game but constantly putting it off for a "better time"; come to think of it, that's what's happening to me right now with Mario & Luigi: Brothership! Like Jonster said, if you're having trouble making progress in the games, I would suggest committing to one specific goal per session instead of trying to go as far as you can at once; for example, maybe you could devote a Rayman 1 gameplay session to just completing the Dream Forest, or spend a session just aiming to complete a particularly difficult level in Origins.

Anyway, I hope that you stick around here!

Yes, sort of, though I guess its far more applicable to other games. I am not sure if it specifically applies to my time playing Rayman since I would play the beginning of the game with the expressed intention of stopping before getting too far from wanting to save it for later. I often booted the games (especially Rayman 2) because I wanted to play them but would just repeatedly play the first world / level so I could play without progressing past the red line I drew for myself. (In the case of Rayman 1, it was the first world, Pink Plant Woods, and in the case of Rayman 2, it was the first stage, before the Fairy Glade---where you fall after the beginning cutscene.) I've accrued a few hours on the PC version of Rayman 2 playing this way, though it is likely more since I usually boot the game outside the launcher so I can play without adding to the playtime counter (since I am "not committing" to starting the game yet.)

I think the milestone idea is helpful. I can't really say I'm sure why, but maybe my worry is that I will reach a point far in the game and then be unable to play for a long time: where I would not want to continue after coming back, even if I enjoyed the game a lot. The main factor which would obstruct me in this case is assigned work, but there may also be other games I am playing which distract me from progressing. I suppose that the more games I am actively playing, the less willing I am to start another game since I do not want to further put off playing my active games. Many times which I have had a desire to play Rayman, I have had a lot of other games on my plate where I felt like I could not justify adding it, even if I really wanted to.

Thank you very much for your advice. I'm excited to play them, but I need to be sure I am not trying so hard to where I view it as a chore---I will try to enjoy myself.

Hello, I am well right now---hopefully you are as well! I had thought about joining this forum a few times in the past whenever I spent my time browsing the internet for things about Rayman, but acting on it never really came into fruition until now. I am not sure I can absolutely guarantee being here for the long term yet, but I do intend to try being somewhat active. The biggest obstacle I foresee is not having anything to contribute to active posts, since I would not want to spam useless replies if I'm not sure what to say.

I guess even if I don't sign into my account often (which is not my intention), I would still come back frequently since I have liked to check this site from time to time. I usually browse in a private/incognito tab, meaning none of my cookies are stored, so I would need to make an active effort to sign in on each visit.

I appreciate your wish of luck to me; I feel more committed to playing through the Rayman games than I ever have before, and I suppose part of that is why now is the time I finally decided to sign up for an account on this forum. I think I have actually become much better at playing levels in Rayman Origins and Legends specifically, as when I play through the levels I am already familiar with, I can (mostly) consistently reach the highest lum goal to complete the stage on my first try without needing to restart (specifically applying to the first worlds of Rayman Origins and Legends, where the requirements are 350(/150) and 600 respectively.)

Thank you for your advice. I do feel like I tend to go overboard trying to complete games, and as a result, I have been trying to focus more on completing games which I enjoy very much and don't mind playing frequently as well as games which simply have easier completion conditions. I try to not think about completing most genres which aren't collection-focused (2D and 3D platformers) as much on my first playthrough; I only believe it is worthwhile if the experience is so enjoyable that I decide to replay it after finishing it once, and even then, it greatly depends on the requirements and the enjoyment compared to playing normally. (That being said, I still end up dedicating time to tedious tasks regardless of how worthwhile I view them to truly be.)

While having a reward can be nice, there are some games which are really fun to go for completion in just for the sake of it, as it feels like you get to explore the whole breadth of the game's content in a way you wouldn't if you simply reached the end and nothing more. (A recent example of this I can think of is Super Mario RPG, where doing the side quests made the experience more fulfilling---I received nothing in return, and yet I felt satisfied stopping once I did everything except the 99 jump.) I don't think I could say that applies to Rayman Origins very much even though the rewards do incentivize you to master the levels and barrel through them at breakneck speed simply because the requirement is so strict that it devolves into trial-and-error.

I think the most daunting part about Rayman 1 specifically is its infamous high difficulty. Whenever I see people talk about the original Rayman, it's brought up pretty often, and I think I have just associated the game with being difficult so much that finishing it has always seemed untenable. If I imagine in my head games I will never be able to finish due to being too hard for me (from my own perception) and too punishing to keep at trying, Rayman 1 would be at the top of that list. I suppose the strict requirement to collect every Electoon in every world before reaching Candy Chateau does not help very much. I have always known about the 99 lives cheat, but I would really like to finish it "pure " (which I really don't mean to say in a condescending way as if using the cheat means you did not truly experience Rayman 1.)

'Ello RPC :-) I've been a lurker for a while but only recently made an account and haven't spoken till now. I'm fix12run or variants thereof.

I've been a Rayman fan for a good while (first run-in with the series was playing a CD-R copy of the first game on my PS1 when i was young, rage quitting, and not picking any of the games back up until replaying it and falling in love with it later on) and it is admittedly a very dear series to me. It's hard for me to pick favorites because i think all the installments are very solid games but Hoodlum Havoc and any of the UbiArt games are super fun romps. My favorite character(s) have to be the Teensies - *insert random teensie quote from rayman 3 here*

I've been playing Legends on my PS3 recently and it's gotten me thinking about the franchise again, and wanting to talk about it with like-minded people. I don't know how much I'll talk here, I come and go, but I think it'd be fun to conversate with people about Rayman (or platformers & older video game consoles in general, if you're into that sorta thing.) I also do art from time to time, some of it Rayman related, which i might share - who knows. I'm just happy to be here :-)
