This ain't a first date, it's a friendly chillsesh that could pertain to a multitude of interests. Observing a piece of entertainment offers people a different kind of bonding than only talking face-to-face does, it's a more silent kind that unifies our interests. That being said, I think both are essential.

That's why you all meet at someone's house, then go to dinner and then go to the show, then afterward we all play some Smash. It's like the dream formula that always works.

Well then I'd vote for something considerably shorter than the 4 hour borefest which is opera (for me ), maybe some youtube videos?

I just... I'd rather go see something maybe the second time I meet someone. I like to reserve the first time for drinking and larfing!
