I don’t mean to disrespect the people who worked on Rayman Origins, but this iteration of Rayman 4 looks like it would have been a far superior experience based on visuals and creativity alone. If they really do resurrect it, let’s hope they don’t shackle it to the Wii’s outdated hardware this time: we don’t want a repeat of what happened to Epic Mickey.
Holy SHIT! This is SUCH an amazing find! You are a god!

Concurred. If you think about it, this is almost the exact opposite of what a lot of Origins brought us. The Origins landscapes were realistic, Earthlike, and plausible; here, they're surreal, abstract, and just fill you with the wonder and suspension of disbelief. This is where I truly think they had the wrong kind of artists working on Origins. They were phenomenal artists, but not the right kind.

Agreed completely.
If they do resurrect the project, this is the source material I'd like to see it based on.
Though I guess some things may require changing, since RO established that Rayman was one of the few limbless peoples, whilst these concepts seem to show that Raymankind flourished in the world.

I don’t see what difference that makes. These games have always played fast and loose with details and continuity. I doubt that anyone would seriously complain if the next Rayman game featured a bunch of limbless characters.

Why these things happen when I'm not at home?
Holy Bubble Dreamer, holy cow, HOLY COW.
Damn guys, these pieces of artwork are absolutely gorgeous. By watching this, now I do want to see Rayman 4's 3D game developed and finished, but preferencially without any Rabbids.

Agreed. Now I really want to see this game being finished, just for the visuals sake.
ShadeAngel, thank you very much by finding this, I've added 1000 Tings to your account as a reward.

Fair enough, I wouldn't complain. Especially with a game that had the potential of this one, it would have blown Origins out of the water.

Using Google’s extremely helpful ‘Search by image’ tool, I’ve found a French blog post with several more pieces of artwork, all high-resolution, and all showing the Fortress of Sands, or whatever it’s called. Could a French speaker translate it?
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that Rayman 4 (Phoenix Interactive) and Rayman Raving Rabbids (Ubisoft Montpellier) are distinctly different games.

I wonder who this Phoenix Studio/Interactive is.
Did a quickie Google Search: they made a Winnie the Pooh game??

Not sure about it being 'superior' to Origins, but these concepts are really amazing. They really have to use some of this in future games, it's too incredible to let go to waste.

No, it's definitely superior.

Wow Now that's an amazing discovery right there Look at all those pictures! So colorful and vibrant. Why in the whole world did they decide to let go of that Rayman game? It clearly needs to be resurrected.
Now how am I going to sleep after this

Anyone else notice 'Dark Rayman' in the third image?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, these seem to have a million of words... wow, just wow. After viewing all these you realize it's such a shame they dropped it. And by the looks of it, this could have been MUCH better then RO, though I do prefer 2d over 3d, I wish they didn't drop such a good idea.

EDIT: nvm
It seems that Rayman 4 would've seen the return of many things we'd loved and lost in Rayman 1, including Tings, the original pink 'O' things Rayman latched onto, those Tacks that came in many forms in R1, and most importantly- PICTURE CITY.
Fuck this. Rayfan, you can use that Truffula tree all you want. >__>
As you can tell I saw The Lorax a few days ago.

Great discovery! The more I see from this game, the more I regret it never made it to the end.

Basically, it says that the artwork was created at Phoenix Studio in 2005 for Rayman 4, and that the project was aborted after four months of development.
