So I was playing Rayman Origins on my laptop during my 3 hour break in college and I'm already at Mystical Pique (though I had already beaten Jibberish Jungle at home, to make sure the game ran OK), and I've got most of the Electoons and all of the Skull Teeth so far (I missed two or three hidden cages, but I have all of the Lum Medals so far).
Goes to show how experience in a game can really shorten your play time (already got all of the achievements in the Xbox 360 version). I'm having lots of fun, although sometimes I mess up in silly ways because I think I'm playing Legends, and try to do things that are possible under Legends' physics, but impossible under Origins' physics.

Yeah, I once went back to Origins and noticed that Rayman felt lighter and slightly more nimble in Origins compared to Legends.

Actually, it's the opposite.
For example, in Origins, Rayman's midair kick can be used to float in midair for a second, and is good for saving yourself from flying into obstacles. However, it kills all forward momentum, no matter what you do.
But in Legends, the same technique can actually be used as a momentum carrier. So if you get Rayman to go really fast, but find an area where you need to kill vertical momentum for a second, you can use the midair kick to momentarily fly in a straight line. This trick is essential for speedrunners, helps out a ton in some areas.
However, you can still do the forward momentum killing trick in Legends if you do the back-midair kick instead of the front one.
That's the biggest and most noticeable difference between the physics in both games. I can't list any others off of the top of my head, I'd have to research and compare the games more actively to get a proper list going!
Maybe I'll do it sometime and add a section to the Rayman Legends Wiki page that documents the physics changes from Origins.

The game is a sequel to Rayman 1,2, and 3. It was supposed to be a prequel that involved how a stupid and immature Rayman and Globox became the heroes we know them today. Why they scrapped that? I have no idea. But in the final version, Rayman and friends aren't stupid, just people who focus on their job while having fun.

It's a sequel to Rayman 3.
Even though this info is ridiculously easy to find out (just look at the Wiki), thank you for asking instead of making uneducated assumptions or starting new threads on the topic; that's been happening far too often lately.

Even though it seems to have nothing in common with Rayman 3 besides having a level called the Land of the Livid Dead (Which is nothing like it is in Rayman 3)...

They still act a bit crazy if you ask me. Expecially on opening.

It's clear that there is some leftover from the crazy idea in Origins, the characters don't really react to dangerous situations.

I am actually glad for that because it turned out good but I would also like a game with more serious tone and character development.

Hm, I don't like the excessive happy-go-luckiness of Origins, but it's perfectly fine in gameplay.

I still wish they cast Rayman as a bit of a pervert, like in the Origins reveal trailer. I seriously was not expecting the first thing he would use his helicopter hair for would be to look up inside Betilla's clothes, and I laughed my butt off when I first saw it. I think it would actually kind of fit the nature theme that Rayman usually has. Casting Rayman as a guy that follows his instincts (which could be used for a balance of comedic Rayman and serious Rayman).

Funniest thing about that scene on trailer is that Betilla is his mother

That's kind of disturbing, actually!

Doesn't mean it can't be after it.

The Rayman Origins opening was crazy. But not exactly crazy-annoying. I would call it crazy-adorable. For some reason that I don't know, it had me laughing out loud the first time I saw it.

It did have a rather serene feel to it at first, though it did quickly descend into the characteristic madness.
