I think Matyuv's Mr Dark rank brings out the true character from the game - which is just what the ranks aim to do. Having said that, I prefer the original.

Someone should try making a rank of Mister Dark standing on the hill with his binoculars. I'd do it but I have no artistic ability at all.

If the second one had more of Mister Dark in it, it would be better. I actually prefer Matyuv's version, however.

I believe the Japanese cover of the game features a nice Mr Dark artwork, maybe we could use it.
