Would you pay more taxes if it meant receiving a pension when you retire?

Yes, the state should guarantee a pension for its citizens.

Yes, but a mixed model would be more efficient (50% state + 50% private pension plan, for example).

No, the state does not have to manage my money; I prefer to have it myself and opt, for example, for a private pension plan.

I think that the legal age at which someone can be tried definitely needs to be lowered. There have always been cases of teenagers committing crimes, but what Steo is talking about is a trend that is also beginning to be seen in Spain (I won't go into detail about who might be responsible). I believe that it is not only essential to lower the age at which you can be judged, because things that used to be done at 15-16 are now being done at 12-13, but also to be stricter when judging people, especially when sexual or violent crimes have skyrocketed.

I think it’s fair here in Canada. 12 is when you can get charged

Definitely yes for any crime that involves physical violence. What does it matter to you if you get killed by a 15-year-old or an adult? Of course I'm taking the most extreme example here, but you also have to think about the victims. And if someone is already committing violent crimes as a kid, what will it be when they're an adult if their actions have no consequences for them? We're not talking stealing candy here.

Oh yeah, I think I vaguely remember hearing something about that…
Actually, it wasn't the inventor but the person who purchased the company.

Pre-emptively asking for the next topic to cover to be about tea.

The TGKQ is proving to be a fertile ground for this discussion.

Ngl I do agree with him.

Though I do think we should also try to rehabilitate people more.

Just to be clear, I was talking about the tea discourse xD

I think my opinion on the current topic is pretty much of the consensus it seems.

Pretty valid take actually. If someone who is only 15 kills a family member, but they are just free to walk down the street again, how is that going to make the family feel? Also the fact that if they can get away with it once, maybe they can get away with it again. Same goes for me with sex offenders, those need to be taken very seriously too.

I do feel people are "aware" that they're under the age limit, so they do these things knowing they should be able to get away with them too. I feel the age being lower would already discourage the majority of the issue, as there would be far less incentive to do something when they feel they won't get away with it.

I think theoretically 18 is the perfect age to be legally tried and sent to real, grown-up prison. I think teenagers who are taking part in underground drug-related crimes should be rehabilitated as I think being doing time like adults do in prison but as a teenager would ruin a person's entire life. I don't think with all the developmental disorder that arises from that someone can live outside the walls of prison or without taking part in the criminal underworld. I think if we treat those at a vulnerable age in that manner we might as well assume they will never do anything productive for the community/society at all.

Do you mean wholeheartedly? Also completely agree, the prison system (In the US, at least), is less than stellar...

I'm surprised to see that the majority so far agree it should be raised. The issues that I see around here must happen pretty much worldwide.

At the risk of sounding like a curmudgeonly old git, I do wonder if social media and its need to be provocative and divisive plays a role in encouraging this sorta thing.

I'd be inclined to think so as well. When I mentioned how people here are going around on bikes wearing balaclavas, I apparently heard that it's a "trend" to do this, and they do it in other countries too. Pretty stupid that people just copy others and think it's cool.

Social media definitely has a way in it. I’m tall, and apparently it was a trend in my town to spot me in town in my bike (which was too small for me) and post it on TikTok. Which I’m like 75% is invasion of privacy
