-- Speaking as a non-American who finds the US system morbidly fascinating, AFAIK even if a progressive Bernie Sanders became President he wouldn't be able to do jack shit with a Republican- or Blue Dog-dominated Congress (either chamber). The shift leftwards must come from the ranks; a president only has so much power, and if Sanders' policies are blocked his will be percieved as a bad presidency - potentially damaging the chances of more progressives in power in the near future.

Unfortunately that's just kind of an inevitable thing that'll happen to any democrat, just look at Obama right now. Republican news networks like Fox revolve not around arguing points, but about how to present them: Bill O'Reilly always states his racism as a logical stance, homophobes are painted as an oppressed minority who just want to preserve christian values, Ted Cruz referred to himself as fucking Galileo for not believing in climate change. Whether it's Sanders or Clinton, I'm more than sure they'll go beyond their reach to try and burn them to the ground, just look at how even net neutrality protection suddenly got flamed the second Obama interfered.

But the good part is that the audience for that stuff is decreasing, and a lot aspects of the republican view are growing ever more outdated. Can you really still have a president like Ted Cruz who compared gay marriage to jihad, thinks climate change isn't real because snow exists and isn't gonna please a single person in all the race protests? At the end of the day, there'd a ton of hatred for Sander, but I imagine that in return someone like Jeb Bush would only further increase the demand for someone like Sanders.

- at 6 an I decided it was enough and I went downstairs to get an ibuprofen.

- but since I don't want to overwork myself and since I didn't feel all that great either yesterday, I decided to call in sick for work at the animal shelter.
+/- oh, and I had some sort of weird fever dream
- although most of the time I was just dreaming and thinking about Smash, which didn't quite help to fall asleep to be honest

- This morning in bed I found myself thinking about the Tottenham riots. Specifically about the boy who posed with one whole bag of stolen rice and was ridiculed for it by many... including myself. I'm ashamed. A poster-boy for the 'selfish', 'consumerist' looting wasn't carrying off a TV or games console but stealing a necessity, and instead of recognising what this meant we decided to mock him.
