later i heard about R2, but it wasn't anymore in store, then i found RR, and even later that that gave his PS2

then i searched for a Rayman Wiki and i found this site

I was about 5 at the time.
I'd played Rayman 2 on the PC and for my birthday, my grandparents bought me a PS2, a TV and Rayman 3.
I knew it would be good because of playing Rayman 2 but this was on a completely different level. I was hooked once I'd played R3: The story, the enemies, the power-ups and levels were all perfect, the balance of humour and sadistic moods PLUS it has REFLUX in it

My cousin used to live with us and he had Rayman 2, which I played quite a lot. I couldn't ever get passed the SoSaF though, as I always remember the Hall of Doors never being open further than there. I always thought that was just where the game ended, but I guess that's because I actually forgot I couldn't pass the level.

Then later, I got Rayman M for my birthday, which I also really loved. After that I got Rayman 3, and now I'm definately getting Rayman Origins. I don't remember quite where, but somewhere in the middle I also received two copies of Rayman 1 for my b'day, but most definately before I even knew Rayman 3 existed.

Oh, by the way, that 'never passing the SoSaF' thing isn't still true. :P
I have now played the game at least 5 times through completely, and it still doesn't bore me.

That was my first computer game :mryellow: It was in one of game magazines (Komputer Swiat GRY, I remember that :D) but I played that game first time at friend's home, I was a kid, dunno, maybe 12 years old... Of course I've got other games after some time, but "they don't have that THING".

Saaaay, was the squared ''cover'' of the game with Rayman using his helicopter and a R3-styled Murfy and green background?

If yes... my first game too... :)

I was visiting my cuzzies back when they had a PS1, in those days I was extremely impressed by the machine, and one of the games they showed me was Rayman 1, even though it was a 2D game, they loved it and when I saw it, I loved it.
When I later got a PS1, one of the games I eventually got for it, was Rayman 1, which I loved despite its' extreme difficulty.
Later, my aunt gave me Rayman 2 for the PS1 as a gift (yes, originally I thought there were only 800 lums), and I loved playing that game (moreso than the first) with my siblings, I can still recall celebrating our hard-earned victory over Axel.
Eventually our PS1 broke, but I kept the Rayman games (Rayman 2 would end up broken)

Later on, we got a PS2, and I decided to get Rayman 3 on it, which I ended up getting along with the console when we bought it.
In 2006, I saw the awesome trailer for "Rayman 4," and witnessed it's decline into a Party game, which I bought, got disheartened, raged at RRR2 for making Earth a canonical place in the franchise, raged at RRR TV Party for making Rayman look like a wimp, and rejoiced at Rayman Origins existence.

Apparently I became a fan around march 2003, when Rayman 3 first came to the TV commercials. I was in love with everything about them. How Rayman gets himself in trouble when he tries the Shock Rocket and it turns on him, or when he accidentally hits the wrong target. Globox must have cringed seeing his head get blown off. XD

I bought the game for PC, and then I began searching the internet, and it eventually led me to joining deviantART.

But I knew about him before that; just not nearly as well, not even as a famous game character, not even by his name (I forgot it as fast as I read it). Only pictures. Every time I saw him on a game cover in a store, I didn't think much of it other than that I liked the way he looks.

My brother received a PlayStation along with a copy of Rayman 1 on the Christmas of 1999. We both immediately took a liking to him (Rayman) because he reminded us a little of the art style we had at the time (basically, a face with a large oval nose with a mouth that came off it, typically a grin. I'm pretty sure the nose on our art went slightly larger after we saw Rayman though :mryellow:)

At the time the only other console we had was a Sega Master System (yeah, we skipped a whole generation :P) so I associated console games with 8 bit graphics and music (this isn't including PC games of course - which i had seen a lot of). So when we tested the PlayStation in the living room on that Christmas morning (or early afternoon - I don't know, I couldn't tell the time back then :P) I was completely blown away by simply the opening cut scene - it was like watching a cartoon, only it was a video game! And then the game came up, with it's amazing graphics and beautiful CD soundtrack (also still the best video game soundtrack to this date, if I say so myself :P). The first person to actually beat Pink Plant Woods was my Dad (back then he used to be amazing at computer games, so it was unsurprising really) although this was the only time he ever played Rayman. I don't even think he remembers doing it anymore :P

Our love for the game became greater as we played on. What really convinced my brother that it was something really special was the moment when Rayman befriends Baby Moskito after the first boss, and the level that follows. The first time he got to the bit where Mozzy suddenly increases speed at the end of the level, we were both literally on the edge of our seats :D. And then the surreal nature of the worlds in the game. My favourite was Picture City, while my brother liked Band Land the best.

And so our love for Rayman 1 continued, and remains with us to this day (despite it's difficulty, of-course ). A Rayman Christmas has since become an amazing thing. The next time it happened was on the Christmas of 2000 (or though it may have been 2001, I forget) with Rayman 2, which wasn't quite as magical experience (I'd say 'with apologies to Rayman 2', but I'm not sure I'd 100% mean it. Besides, it was the awful PS1 version...). A Rayman Christmas hasn't happened again until last year (that's 2011, for all of you who haven't found the new year to sink in yet ;)) when I got Rayman Origins!

Sorry, that story was overly long - I had a mass nostalgia moment right there. I'll be quiet now

I was in the house of a ex-neighbour who had a "lite" Playstation 1 with a couple of games. When I went to the living room, I saw him playing a game with a very cartoony, colourful, happy and animated jungle landscape (Rayman - Pink Plant Woods/The Primordial Forest). I was marvelled to the amount of detail of everything in the screen. When I look to the left I see a character with a unique attribute, something that I've never seen before: no arms, no legs and no neck. I asked if I could play, and he let me (even he answered me with a moody face). I found quite fun his attack (The telescopic fist) and how the enemies died. I managed to beat Bzzit and to reach Bongo Hills. Hours later, I noticed I was hooked and I was already further than the ex-neighbour in the game. In the same day I tried Rayman 2: The Great Escape's DEMO in a Playstation Magazine disk. From that day on I got a Rayman fan.

It was the only good thing that ex-neighbour has done to me in that Summer of 2000.

I posted this in a different thread because I'm an idiot:

I've been a Rayman fan since about age three, when I first saw my cousin playing Rayman 1 on the PC (which was about 1998 I believe). I was mystified by how gorgeous it was. I'll never forget what I saw him play: I watched him play from Anguish Lagoon (including the fight against Moskito), him ride Moskito, and then I had seen the beautiful rolling hills that introduced Band Land (the first area exclusive to the PC version). I watched up to the second area in Allegro Presto, then it was time to go to preschool.

Yeah baby, 1998. And here I am now eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto V.
