Social media you use the most?

How so? There's no chat feature, no friend feature, and hardly any features made for socialising. Commenting, for example, is for the purpose of leaving feedback, not having a conversation. Sure, you could use YouTube as a social media platform if you really wanted to, but you could use pretty much any website as a social media platform if it's possible to post text/images/videos. My point is that YouTube's primary purpose is not for socialising, even if it is possible to do so. You could use Wikipedia as a social media platform if you really wanted to, but it wasn't built for it.

Comments are hardly a chat feature. I meant private chat, in which you can have a conversation with your friend. There's no DM feature on YouTube. If you want to talk to someone, you first need to find a video they've commented on and reply to it, and everyone can look in on your conversation. Obviously the comments section was not made for having conversations, it was made for making comments on videos, as the name suggests.

Personally I'm still not convinced, but I can see how it could be seen either way. That article seems to be hinged on the fact that YouTube allows people to share content with followers and foster a community, but the same could be said about a radio show, and you wouldn't call radio a social media platform. I wouldn't be surprised if Google started adding more social media related features into YouTube though.

Listeners write and/or call in live to radio shows all the time. And you don't need a follow button to follow something, you just tune in every week.

I think it's important to steer clear of most mainstream social media. You always leave more mentally strained than you do going in, whether it be because of seeing something you shouldn't have or the vile nature in people that anonymity can bring. There are some nice things, though. I can share my art with and speak to people from all over the world. I suppose that's pretty cool Technically RPC is social media as well, but I would say that toxic nature doesn't affect more down-to-earth forums like this.

Yeah places like X (stupid name) are literally like wrestling rings when it comes to drama. Almost everything that happens there is some form of drama, gatekeeping, or resorting to cancel culture. It's still nice to use it for promoting your work, but other than this, it's basically useless, as any opinion you have is going to have everyone gang up on you with pitchforks and poke you harder with them for apologising over it.

I like cool little hangout places like this forum, and the likes of Discord when you find a place to just chill. I tend to use Discord servers to help with game development projects too.

Uuugh don’t get me started on cancel culture. In the current state of the internet you can’t even have an opinion anymore.

I remember YouTube used to have Friends and DMs back when I first joined… So all that's gone then, eh? I guess they tried to move that stuff over to Google+ or whatever they ended up calling it

I do remember the old friend and DM features now that you mention it. I think Google Plus has pretty much been and gone, and YouTube has been through so many countless evolutions and eras since, it's pretty much unrecognisable from it's early days. Not that I mind too much to be honest, although I really do wish they never decided to remove on-screen notifications. I remember so many videos would use them in creative ways to make interactive games and even animations made entirely with annotations.
