This actually looks like it could have more atmosphere than the first Rayman Origins.
I like it.

Some more info on the video that was available on the survey.

http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/6346 ... -detailed/
He describes the game as having a "darker, almost watercolour art style." He also added that the game uses more 3D models than the first game, which relied heavily on 2D art.

"It had video showing a darker, almost watercolour art style that's not as saturated as the first game, and it seems to use more 3D models on a 2D plane (they still look kind of 2D, but for example there was a bit where a big-ass dragon came up from the background and it was definitely a polygonal model.)

"It also had another video showing online modes in the form of challenge levels where you compete for scores or times in specific challenges," he said of the game's new challenge modes.

"The two [the video] showed were a simple race and a bit where you were falling down a vertical shaft and had to collect as many Lums as possible before you hit the bottom."

Never thought I'd say this, but this really looks like shit.

Hopefully it's just a hoax or some abandoned project we'll never hear about.

I don't think anyone said so. The article on the Brazilian website was bullshit, they even admitted it later.

Would you like to point out precisely where this news contradicts anything I have said?

The Rayman games have had an intertextual edge for a while now; the Muses of Greek myth were referenced in some Rayman 2 material, and the Greek goddess Artemis was mentioned in Rayman 3, along with several other mythological and literary characters. I’m still not sure how the Count Zaroff in The Most Dangerous Game is supposed to relate to the one who’s Razoff’s father.

Though to my idea these references were quite subtle.

Because a new Rayman game is planned or in development does not mean Michel Ancel was talking about it in the interview you mentioned. I don't quite see how this contradicts spiraldoor.

This is still no indication that he wasn't talking about Rayman Origins 1 at the time of the interview.

All that aside, is anyone else getting a Rayman 2 prototype vibe from some of the screenshots? I know I am, for the dragon one especially. At the same time though, that art style (especially the dragon) looks like something out of a bad 3D series for children.
I'm sure it will turn out to actually look pretty neat though. I like the idea of a "darker, almost watercolour art style"...

Agh, very well. I was wrong.

Yes, I thought this too. I just hope it doesn't stray too far from what we're used to see from Rayman. I don't want to see the unique feel become lost.

Looking at those screenshots, and then back at this quote from Michel Ancel, hmm.
I don't know about the integrity of the pictures here (Which I have said before :| ), I didn't know the real RO story was about Greek mythology. And seeing as the first one had nothing (as far as I can remember) to do with anything mythical, I don't... Hm.

I welcome the new art style. As I said when the first Rayman Origins trailer premiered, I have problems with the flat, textureless, Cartoon Network look of the characters. Maybe this new ‘watercolour’ style will be closer to the more naturalistic graphics of the earlier games. The leaked images look poor, but that’s largely thanks to the horrible image quality; I look forward to getting a proper look at the game in June.

I wonder if Rayman’s going to go all Kratos on us and kill some Greek gods.

I can't judge this new style yet myself. The quality of the shots are just not good enough. It looks promising though.

I wasn't talking about the Kotaku Brazil article content itself, but yes that "wasn't likely to exist a RO sequel using the same mechanics" since some were thinking it was more likely to appear a 3D game.

Now I remember that my Rayman fanfic mentions Chronos, the God of Time at a certain point. It would be funny if he appeared in the game :P.

I can't give a solid opinion about this sequel, but I only hope Ubisoft has got good reasons to show more Earth content and the Greek Mythology.

In all honesty, I'm not sure what to think of it. For now, I think a simple ''meh'' will do.

Including Greek mythology in the Glade of Dreams with absolutely no explanation would be fine, but I really hope they don’t try to rationalise it or suggest some kind of connection between our world and Rayman’s world. That’s Rabbids territory.

That's what it concerns me, because I wouldn't have problems either if they decided to include more mythology in the game. We all know that Polokus, the Great Palmito and Leptys aren't the only gods in Rayman's universe.

I’ll be surprised if Jano, Mr Dark and Picture City do not appear.

Whoa, that's exactly what I thought when I saw it at first (except that I played it in DOS). :P

What's ironic is that the French voice actor of Rayman voiced Disney's Hercules in French version.
