Re: Beyond Good & Evil
The Uplay version gets rid of the borders? Damn, you need to hack the GOG version for that! And I wasn't able to make that hack work on Wine either.
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
Actually this is weird, but I deleted everything in the game folder and reinstalled the game last time, then the borders weren't there. After reinstalling the OS, I installed the game and it did have borders. I just used the fix that had a bge.ini and d3d9.dll (I think).PluMGMK wrote: Sun Oct 07, 2018 2:58 pm The Uplay version gets rid of the borders? Damn, you need to hack the GOG version for that! I know to get Wine to load Better Rayman 3, I had to tell wine to load the dll myself, otherwise it wouldn't do it by itself.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
You've been able to get Wine to load Better Rayman 3? I don't think I ever managed that…
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
I was having some minor graphical glitches, but yeah I got it to load it and show the cutscenes properly etc.
I think I still had Mint on the spare SSD, so I'll check what I done and maybe try BG&E then out of curiosity

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
Some time has passed since then but I will post this information anyway.
At the January 2019, the Beyond Good & Evil HD Xbox 360 review beta disc was put up for an auction on eBay. It was sold for something around $100.
Here's pic:
I even wanted to buy it but I got a high fever on the last day of the auction and I couldn't offer $100.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
Interesting, and 100 doesn't even sound so bad for something rare. I was considering buying the digital HD version on Xbox 360, is it a good port?
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
Yea, still $100 is a pretty large sum in my country (for a video game thing). The guy who prepared this auction was selling a lot of these (some interesting - Bioshock, Farcry, Saints Row 4).Steo wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 12:53 pm Interesting, and 100 doesn't even sound so bad for something rare.
I completed it on the PC so it can be done (not to mention that I spend a long time to understand why game run so slow realizing that I had not turned on multi-core function lol). Complaints about this port relate to insignificant things. Gameplay from X360 looks fine also.Steo wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 12:53 pm I was considering buying the digital HD version on Xbox 360, is it a good port?
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
Well 100 is still steep, just not the worst when it comes to rare games really. Rayman 1 for Jaguar costs more than that, and the price seems to just keep increasing.
Thanks for letting me know also. I own BG&E on PC already, and there's a fix you can apply to remove the black bars. I should download it again and see if it will work properly on Linux. Knowing that the Xbox 360 version is solid is nice too should I decide to purchase it. The black bars on the older consoles are kind of annoying, the game is 4:3 letterboxed, so it could easily have been 16:9 instead if they could be removed.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
I haven't had any luck running the de-bar-ified version on Linux unfortunately. Like the ill-fated Rayman 3 patch, it involves messing with a native DX dll. Come to think of it, maybe the Wine version could be messed with instead to have the same effect. Theoretically it should be easier than messing with the original, given that Wine is open-source.
I've heard that the HD version is glitchier than the original, with (for example) Pey'J liable to disappear if you don't do things in the expected order. If you know what you're doing in the game it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
I have yet to try, but I'll download it and try it out. I'm currently running Debian 10 and I can get Better Rayman 3 to launch, but the thing is it will crash. I wonder if BG&E will result in a similar scenario for me.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
I heard about this yesterday myself, still quite surprising but it makes me curious how this will turn out at the same time. At least unlike with the “inspired” tv series, this one DEFINITELY is about BG&E.
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
I seen something about this yesterday, it's interesting to say the least. While I still need to actually complete the first game (since I only played like halfway through), I'd be interested to see how this turns out.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
There's no time like the present!
I should warn you though, a week after I first played, it I accidentally erased my LFS system.
You have backups though, so you're fine.
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
I do have one backup just in case I break something, but I would really hate to lose the entire OS.
I'm not sure how this happened though, unless the game is just cursed.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
Nah, if there was any curse involved, it was NVIDIA (green like the DomZ…). That and the fact that it was 2016.
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
I did have to send my 5700XT back because it annoyed me that it kept freezing the computer, so I just used my spare GTX 970 for the time being. I guess I'll wait and buy an AMD GPU that actually works properly at some stage.
Re: Beyond Good & Evil
So... I started playing this game for the first time in my life a few months ago, just finished it a couple of days ago.
I was impressed. It's quite good. I did hit the problem with audio/video desync in cutscenes (and this is on an old laptop running XP, although a dual-core one). I'll investigate later if any of the proposed solutions work.
Having watched the trailers of BG&E2, and the graphics... Well, if that game does come out, it will be probably be a bigger tech gap between a game and its sequel than Duke Nukem Forever was compared to Duke Nukem 3D.

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
So, is anyone still interested in BG&E2?

Re: Beyond Good & Evil
The day that BG&E2 comes out will be the day the world will be freed from COVID-19! Who knows when that will be!
Regardless, I hope one day there will be some sort of indication of whether the game's been continued or not.
