+/- Gay marriage has been ruled legal across all of the US by the Supreme Court. Obviously that's great, but I'm sickened to think about how much politics and corporations'll exploit this even more now. Superficial, bullshit people who are now gonna stuff their "LGBT support" in everyone's throat, but silently avoid anyone wondering why they didn't do it when it could have hurt their reputation more. So many fucking people are hurt by homophobia, and here they are, reducing it to mere advertising tactics, and coming in to profit once everyone else mopped up the blood.

It just pisses me off endlessly to see people celebrate Obama like a power-to-the-people icon, when meanwhile the TPP is still noiselessly going on behind everyone's back and he's not stretching out an arm to stop it. This is why Bernie Sanders is so fucking important, because I want a political figure who can actually make moves like this without corporations and a deep desire to appear trendy to young liberal people deciding when I'm allowed to marry another man.

If the US miraculously woke up back with its 1950's take on LGBT people tomorrow, Wells Fargo would pull its ads right away and Obama wouldn't be waving any rainbow coloured flag, and that's the reality of it. We'd be back to zero and the same people who are about to pretend that they were with the movement the whole time won't be showing any sympathy.

The ruling was a surprise to me, not that I pay too much attention to American politics. Surprising in how soon it's come. I would have expected the US to wait at least another five years, but oh well, good on you Murica.

- My first unassisted day of mentoring ex-criminals was unsuccessful. My chap was released bang on time and fled the premises and the city before I or anyone else could speak to him. In a way, I'm pleased I didn't meet him on this occasion, as I imagine it would be hard not to take his reluctance to cooperate personally.

Feels so fucking pointless to care about corporatism when it seems like no matter who it is, everyone is almost eager to bite right into a meaty chunk of this shit.

I would regard it as a genuinly good thing : it wasn't that long ago that Oreo was scorned on social media platforms for showing their support to the gay community.

But it's all fake, set up support, part of the recent new trend to apply personalities to brands: To give the illusion that Taco Bell and Yahoo are more than mere companies, but hold funny, sassy personalities that are expressed through their social media, and have agendas that match with liberal teens. It doesn't matter how good the message is, it's a superficial, empty one created and monitored to ensure it holds the specific details that don't support the movement, but rather their personal images. And while Google does that, it's also busy being one of most unbelievably abysmal corporations to exist, so again it's not about the actual movement, it's about creating a bond between Google and the user, all with the intention of being able to silently fuck over these same people.

I know I get really pissy and wordy about it, but in a day and age where any minority movement can grow big, it just frustrates me more how easily people give in to the corporations.

@ Keane : If it gives you any sense of relief (I can't find the exact word I want here but this'll do) i've seen a fair number of users on there that have also called out on this bullshit, most especially on cooperation that are well known for not actually being supportive or in some cases actually being harmful to the cause. Not to mention i'm certainly in agreement with you as well, although i'm not particularly one for blaming the people. While I do think it should be the company's that's the first to blame it doesn't change the fact this tactic is built upon people being so gullible in the first place. In the end though such a bland marketing tactic is only short lived especially when bad news about them pops up again, not that it stops it from being annoying when it happens though.
