I've been playing it on and off. Haven't had time lately and I often revisit levels to get any cages I missed. Also, ofc Rayfist would detour the damn Origins with another inferior Rayman game. There's a R3 thread godamit, eugh.
And don't credit me on the similarities in voices of the Magician. That goes towards Saber. He pointed it out first.

I wasn't the first one who brought it up you fucking idiot.
But since you bring it up, Origins definitely had one of the WORST final bosses of the bunch. No doubt in my mind. I refer both to Big Mama and the chase against the Magician.

The Magician's final boss battle could have been great... if it was actually completed. I'm pretty sure they wanted to make a Boss Rush kind of thing, but then they went "meh, whatever" and just made two bad guys... bummer.

The Moskito segment is not what I consider final boss material. Big Mama is an alright final boss. She's pretty hard for the first time.
I would have loved to seen robot counterparts of El Stomacho and Creveton.

To be honest, the final area of the game could have been amazing if the player's hits actually mattered. Like, what if the final cutscene only happened if Rayman was able to fully destroy de backside of the airship and defeat the pilot inside? But neh, in the end, the final boss is literally a score attack minigame where you can't really lose.
And Big Mama wasn't great either. She's just a very simple memory game.

Big Mama is really anticlimactic, after The Land of The Livid Dead. It would've been really good opportunity to end the game on some over-the-top assfuckery, but it's probably the worst boss in the game - memorise the pattern, defeat very easily once you've got a chance to see all the patterns that are gonna come.
Like the more I play Origins the more questionable the design feels. It's a fine game there's just so much weird shit going on: awkwardly lame boss fights that don't match the excitement of the normal gameplay, bullshit plot, making the player replay all the worlds with different levels just to see the ending, etc. It's like a certain polishing of it all never happened, Legends feels much more like the game Origins was intended to be.
But needless to say, a taco bowl making, trump-beloved person like Brad will defend this game over the patrician's choice.

Personally, I like Origins more. Maybe it's just the sense of progression since you aren't just jumping from world to world. But that's just my opinion.

Bosses, I'll agree that Legends did much better, but even so, I think R1 and R3's bosses are the best in the series. As for level design, I think Origins relied on more precision based platforming than Legends, it's particularly apparent when you see how nerfed some Back to Origins levels are compared to the original incarnations.
As for focus, I think we're all aware about how Origins gameplay evolved during its development, Legends has the advantage of having a finalised formula to build on, as opposed to being moulded while said formula was evolving. It does show in Origins, but I don't think it's particularly detrimental.

It'd be nice if Ubi at least tried to complete a recent Rayman game. They all seem so rushed. Sure, from an artistic & gameplay standpoint they're total masterpieces, but for the story, they're all just... unfinished.

I suppose that's better than Legends' take, and most of Origins' weird decisions are pretty forgivable. Legends just feels more tightly designed, almost all the levels introduce something interesting and crank up the fun meter the whole time, safe maybe a slight overabundance of Globox segments. Origins gets it pretty right too and might even be a little more in touch with the trilogy, but for example the glacier levels in Gourmand Land should've been all about keeping the pace and rhythm right over the slippery ice, not tedious shit like balancing on bubbles and breaking through ice blocks.

Just a little more focus on plot would've been fine, as opposed to the game at best just acknowledging that you beat it. There's no reason the game didn't unlock an awesome final level after beating all the worlds, complete with an intergalactic space jesus fight at the end.

Allow me to expand my post. Big Mama is an alright final boss. She's pretty hard for the first time the player encounters her. She has a pretty tough moveset to memorize for the first couple of times one fights her. After one fights her plenty of times, it becomes quite easy and to put it into terms, just a bunch of actions dependent on the player's reflexes.
It's still baffles me and is amusing that you guys are still distraught over the lack of plot. Who the hell still cares? Just let it go. Sure, I like stories in games when they are not the main focus of the game, but the devs already gave an explanation on why they cut it (due to lack of motivation and in the end becoming a jumbled mess). So why they hell are you guys still so asshurt with the lack of plot? I enjoy the game for what it is. Even Ancel himself that the plot is not important and I respect that decision because the gameplay is solid enough to carry the game.
I can forgive the "replay all the worlds with different levels" because hey! More game for me. The "awkwardly lame boss fights that don't match the excitement of the normal gameplay"? The bosses weren't exciting to you? Because I remember having a great effin' time being chased by Carnivora or exploring the inside of El Stomacho.
I admit, I feel that Legends is the better game. It definitely feels way more polished and has some design choices I found very charming (as in having the character walk in the direction they're headed in a level, having different types of backdrops for the loading sections, different color of Teensies to represent their worlds, etc). But I still find Origins a very well polished game and still one of the best Rayman games ever to be produce.

ehh I guess, It's just kind of a trial and error fight, which is fair enough. I would've just preferred slapping the shit out of it like in the original trailer.

You know, that trailer with a really good plot concept.
But no I've changed my mind on being salty about the plot in the new games. I don't think it's necessary and I like that they don't force you to do any stupid bullshit and just let you get straight to the game, as opposed to Rayman 3 which takes way too long to start feeling like you're playing the actual thing. That being said, I would've still preferred the idea of a prequel which would fill up a lot of holes and shove in some fanservice. But whatever, the original games are over a decade ago now and I'd be really happy if they put out any new major releases at all now.

Yeah well, new worlds would've been even more game for you. I can't -really- complain about being offered more levels, but as far as it being a cohesive game with each world leading up to the final area goes, I think it would've been a really satisfying reward if they instead kept those levels as an unlockable bonus for beating the game. It's just kind one of those weird things, the game suddenly moves from what's seemingly the final world to "hey go play variations of everything else first." Which sure, it's fun and makes the game last a lot longer, but it doesn't feel like a great move. At that point you know you're not going to really see anything new, it's just more of the same.

Fine, El Stomacho was fun. But the other are just...alright. In Legends they feel much more like big special events, whereas the eel and golem bosses just feel like quick battles to break up the pace.

When you play Origins, you notice that the plot, even though they tried to remove most of it, it is weirdly complicated. They didn't really change the story, they just cut out chunks and left behind a (minimized) jumbled mess of the story in the released game. When I got to the cutscene on top of the mountain with all the nymphs together, I thought to myself "did I miss something?".
You can ignore that if you want to, but that doesn't mean others aren't right to find it annoying.

The fact is, it would not have sucked to have at least one taste of a plot. Even if it had to be simple like the first Rayman, but it should have been there. When Rayman Origins first came out I also didn't care that much about the missing plot. I just enjoyed it because finally I had again a Rayman game (No more Rabbids, man). But once I finally completed it, I had the time to analyze it and notice something was still missing. It's just an opinion but since my favourite game is Rayman 2, the lack of story in the game really made itself notice at last.
Rayman Origins is still a beautiful game though, in sense of gameplay, colours and music. And I like to think about it as a great revival for Rayman.
