You seem to have the general idea. The word "boon" refers to someone who acts like a noob despite having experience in whatever field is in question. Hence they're not a newbie, so the word is reversed.
So the boonsmiley is a response to behaviour that might be attributed to such a person, sometimes even the poster's own behaviour (as in this case).
