Welcome to the 8th edition of the Video Games Knowledge Quiz! I’ll skip the opening preamble this time as I imagine everyone’s heard it before, but if you need a refresher on the rules check the original post!

So…let’s get going!

QUESTION 1 - I’ve got two lists of Metroid games below, there’s a key differentiator between the two, which I’d like you to suss out. I’ll give a clue and say that both lists involve games where Samus visibly loses abilities from the introduction, so games where she starts off without anything (like the original/Zero Mission, II/Samus Returns, Prime Hunters, Super Metroid) don’t feature.

List 1:
Metroid Prime
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Dread

List 2:
Metroid Prime 2
Metroid Prime 4

Would it be :

List 1 : she loses all abilities due to the game's primary antagonist?

List 2 : The environment of the planet renders Samus' arsenal ineffective and so she starts from scratch?

Dude you really do, they're stellar games. Alas no, it's something a lot more simpler and specific.

The OG Metroid Prime still triggers my motion sickness pretty hard though. I gotta check if there's MP Trilogy on the Switch.

There's Prime Remastered which is the first Prime game, but otherwise the only other way to play the other games is a version of Prime Trilogy. PrimeHack is a good way of you've got the means for it.

Is 0 suit Samus not present in the first list, while she is in the second one? (Never played any of the games, so this is a pure guess).

The difference is that you lose morph ball or you keep it?

Pirez has got it! Prime 2 & 4 has Samus lose abilities, but she keeps the Morph Ball. In the other games she loses the Morph Ball as well and needs to find it again.

QUESTION 2 - Which franchises were represented by the rescuable bots in the Astro Bot Christmas level?

Okay no takers. Here's some clues:

There are 7 characters total, but 6 franchises. 5 of the franchises are relatively well-known on the original PS1. 4 of those titles are platformers. I couldn't think of anything for 3. But 2 of them are reptilian. And one of them...well you're in this forum so you should know who that one is.

The only 3 franchises I can think of at the moment are Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Gex, and Rayman. I’m lost on the rest (even though I played and fully finished that level ).

Judging by the clue I would say: Rayman, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot (maybe), Croc and maybe Silent Hill? I didn't play the game so that's a very wild guess XD
