< isn't very good at CF and only got 72476 on <'s attempt

< was still admittedly intrigued when ^ mentioned the 26th hoodlum was in the area previously acceesed before the boss fight. < wonders if they end up there? Hmmm....

< says it was after the boss fight. < got all the spawned enemies in combo then went back to check if < had missed anything and the game highlighted a red circle. < was thinking wait what and next of all it started making enemy sounds, so < hit it and got points for it

< thinks that was probably a glitch. Lucky ^!

If only < knew that before the combo had ended

< thinks that is still interesting to hear. < should get some work done on <'s save file tonight.

< is trying to get to the second level (height) on CF. < is trying punching the piggy bank while standing on it to gain extra height

Welp. < is screwed now. <'s save file is corrupted and < just had to reformat the memory card. Fuck <.

Ah well, back to square one
Ironically, < did better on the Fairy Council this time, stll going blind here

Ah fuckin' hell! That sucks ^. < is making sure to keep this save backed up. not that < can't do it again (and <'s sure ^ can

) but < just thinks it's added effort if < loses the save now.
< knows ^ wants better scores anyway but starting again from the beginning without the choice to choose a level really sucks.

Yeah, theres a silver lining to this. < really needs to learn to back up saves on <'s Dolphin.

< is going to continue <'s blind playthrough without looking at the tips before checking there. < wants to see how high < can go.

< might just try the same thing for the rest of the levels and see what < can get. < can't quite get the hang of CF anyway yet. < only got to the higher level once and it's very temperamental

< set <‘s alarm an hour ahead by accident and ended up 15 minutes late to <‘s physics A-Level exam

Luckily < managed to finish it with a little time to spare and < thought < did pretty well considering. Still, < might have taken Steo’s place as king eejit...
<‘s been tinkering with Fusion for the past few days and <‘s managed to cobble together a platformer with a dynamic camera which can smoothly switch between just locking on to the player’s X-ordinate or Y-ordinate or locking on to a whole room which are activated by invisible camera triggers. <‘s thinking of making a (very small scale) Metroidvania type game with Zelda-esque dungeons, except in the form of a dynamic platformer with wall jumping and the like akin to Super Meat Boy.

What does that make <, Queen Eejit??
< really wants to finish <‘s blind playthrough by this weekend

< thinks it's ironic to be known as "the king eejit"
< thinks that's good that ^^ is progressing with fusion. < is guessing fusion is different but on GM, < would use something like 2 variables. One for horizontaldir and verticaldir.
Basically the vertical dir is -1 for up and 1 for down. The horizontal dir is -1 for left and 1 for right. Then < would just use something like (and < might even try this on <'s game)
Code: Select all
// Draw event of camera controlling object
if horizontaldir = 1 view_xview=Rayman.x+300
else
view_xview=Rayman.x-300
Then the same for vertical. < isn't sure that's completely correct though and < will have to check it later

The camera in <‘s game focuses on whatever room you’re in, similar to a top down RPG. The way < did it was to have a camera object and set its X/Y coordinates to
Code: Select all
playerX - (playerX modulo screenwidth)
and
Code: Select all
playerY - (playerY modulo screenheight)
respectively, so if the screen width was 300 px and the player had an X ordinate of 100 the camera would have an X ordinate of (100 - 100 mod 300) = 0. If the player moves off the screen and has an X ordinate of 450, the camera will have an X ordinate of (450 - 450 mod 300) = 300. So basically the camera snaps to whichever multiple of 300px you’re currently standing in.
It also has smooth transitions where the camera slides over rather than snapping, which required < to have a targetX and targetY value and the actual X ordinate of the camera is set to
Code: Select all
cameraX + (targetX - cameraX) * 0.9
every frame, so that the camera only moves nine tenths of the distance between the camera and the target position every frame giving it a smooth exponential decay looking effect.

Ah < sees. < thinks it's probably easier in fusion too. There's a way < did it before to get a smooth transition too and < will be figuring that out. < doesn't want the snap view, it would make it look like a bad flash game

<‘s simplifying a little but Fusion’s pretty light on the coding side, most of the programming you can do visually and the more complex stuff can be done by using ordinary maths expressions for values. Still, from <‘s experience < doesn’t think Fusion’s actually any less restrictive than GM or any other game engine, and they’re coming out with Fusion 3 sometime in the near future which will apparently have a lot of nifty features missing in 2.5.

< can see what ^ means. Maybe it's slightly easier to use than GM but without restricting anything, which is good
< would like to try it but < is just using GM since < already owns it. < hopes to try out Fusion at some stage though.
