We would have Hoodlum's Revenge... starring the Lackey. :D

Razorbeard, on the other hand, was commanding an entirely operational and fearsomely logical invasion of the planet. He'd already succeeded in destroying the Heart; Andre didn't even manage that.
But many Teensies got locked up in cages! That's terrible! Andre got pretty close to the Heart, which would have been terrible. I'm sure Reflux would've done terrible things if he succeeded.

On this subject, what do you think would happen if Andre/Reflux succeeded?

If Andre had succeeded in the beginning - well, the entire world's energy would be corrupted. I'm guessing evil lums, hostile characters, terraforming... basically, the 'world of ruin' from FF6. :)
If Reflux, however, had succeeded after invoking the Leptys... Rayman would be some kind of squidge, and the world covered in swarms of dark lums. Who knows what they'd do then?

Maybe Globox could go grab the Masks, or something. :?

Globox getting the masks? Knowing him, it would be the last thing he would try to do. And besides, how would he open the stone pillars that hide the masks?

But in case of Reflux and André suceeding it would be pretty terrible. Rayman and Globox would die. It wouldn't surprise me that Reflux would next murder King Gumsi to "steal the chair" and transforming the Glade of Dreams into a dark and corrupt place with Black Lums and Hoodlums as Candy said, to be a better place to the Knaarens live, and expand massively their territory.

I don’t think the Masks are still in the pillars. Judging by the intro to the Globox Disc, the Masks are currently somewhere near the Globox Village, so Globox should be able to access them easily enough.

If André and Reflux had managed to defeat Rayman and Globox, André’s Black Lum army would have spread throughout the world and eventually the Fairy Glade and the Heart of the World would have fallen.

That's a possibility, unless those masks on the Globox's Village are just a replic or something.

I doubt Polukus would want to be awoken by some screaming, amphibious toddlers who just happen to pick up those masks lying around the village... :mefiant: I bet he's moved them back where only the strange can find them.

The whole idea of the masks always weirded me out a little, I mean, one time my friend saw me playing rayman 2 and he asked 'so what exactly is the plot in this game?' to which I replied, 'you're a creature with a massive nose, a big head full if hair or ears that he can use to glide from the ground, oh and also you have no limbs. Your aim is to search around these different places looking for these magical masks in order to deliver them to this fat guy in a purple hat on top if a stone so he can rid the world of these evil robotic pirates that have invaded and they captured you and all of your friends at the start of the game'. Man they must have been soooooooooooooooo high when they dreamed that one into reality :fou2:

Intresting note: If Globox and Uglette are amphibians, are their children born through eggs and hatch as tadpoles?

I always did find it a little weird that polukus' magical items of extreme power were masks, I mean... Why masks? Does anyone think they were worn by anyone at some point? Maybe the magical fat dude in a hat himself wore them? :|

I think it IS a case of tadpoles - which is why they have a well; the kids can hatch in a quiet, dark, wet, secluded place where no one can get them. :P

Masks are traditional vessels of power in many cultures. If you wear one, it's like you are almost literally taking on that persona - many believe that spirits reside in masks. I'm guessing the Masks of Polukus contain elemental spirit-things, or something.

baby globoxes may be called baby globoxes, but I'd LOVE to see a baby tadpole globox! XoX *cuteness insues*

I'm sorry, but I had to do that.
I agree, they would be the CUUUUUUUUTEST little squidgeys... :fou: Although, I don't think sperm-alikes can ever be that adorable...

Curiously before I getting R2's full version when I was 9, I was playing often the demo, and I was always thinking that Rayman would use the Masks that Ly talks about.

The little pools in the Globox Village can take on that role too. I do love the Globox Village.

I’ve always sort of wondered why the Guardians aren’t wearing the Masks, or what would happen if someone actually put one of them on. I think a baby Globox briefly puts the fourth one on in the Iron Mountains...

Also, Rayman 2 is not the only platformer which involves elemental masks:

I really do wonder if it was a coincidence or if Traveller’s Tales were drawing ‘inspiration’ from other games...

Agreed about the Globox Village - there's so much awesome in Rayman 2 for DC. The intro is unbelievable. :D

In the N64 version (at least) of Rayman 2, a baby Globox puts on the 'air' mask at the end of the ship-piloting section. But the DC, PS and PS2 versions don't have this... I'm guessing that whatever power lies in the masks, slightly retarded babies can't access them. The Guardians don't wear the masks because that would defy the point of protecting them. Imagine the '/0' moment if that icicle were to crash onto Axel's head, mask and all.

Masks Of Power is a closely related trope that we can only assume plays a huge role in 'tropical' platformers.

No, the guardians don't wear the masks because they wouldn't fit on their faces.

But magic masks have a habit of fitting everyone. MAGICALLY.

My thoughts were more along the lines of why the developers did not put the Masks on the Guardians’ faces. The developers can do anything, so the shape of the Guardians’ faces is irrelevant. The developers designed those faces and they could easily have made the faces and the Masks the same thing.

That's true, but you'll notice Axel, Foutch and Grolem 13 (if he counts? :? ) share a head - just different colours. :fou: It would be quite boring to simply model the Masks on the Guardians' faces, as they wouldn't be distinctive enough.
