Yeah, but I was granted it last year as I hadn’t designed a rank at that point (Dec 16th)

Those Ly ranks are really impressive! :D
I saw Silver's full art, and it really looks good even here despite the minuscule rank format!

Mortamon Saturn wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 6:05 pm I hope both of you enjoyed Sonic Generations X Shadow The Hedgehog 2 this year! :noel:
And yeah, Sonic X Shadow Generations? We pre-orded it, got the digital deluxe version, the whole nine yards.
We were HYPED so of course we were gonna get the whole shebang!

Chronic already got the Shadow half of the game done, I watched the entire time. (The Terios skin was pretty cool.)

We had to reset a little bit of progress on the Sonic side, because no way were we gonna pass up all those free skill points! To be fair we'd only just passed Speed Highway. The lack of lives is taking a bit to get used to, but it's nice to be able to keep trying. I mean, we're pretty confident, we could just turn lives back on...

I play Modern Dreamcast Sonic, and Chronic is playing the Genesis half, since I didn't wanna hog two different gameplay styles. And I'm so used to playing the original Sonic The Hedgehog on the Genesis that Classic feels like lead when I jump, so I had to pass it off. I also keep forgetting I'm not able to roll playing Modern Dreamcast Sonic...It sucks that Modern Dreamcast Sonic can't spindash, but the drop dash works too I guess...
Same! I even just bought an extra copy on PS4 as I found a very cheap one in stores, my PC couldn't really do a perfect 60 fps (and I got blinding/epilepsy-tier rainbow goop in White Space once :noelnoir: ), and SEGA only sent me a PS4 code for the Sonic Jam skin despite me asking for a Steam one! :noel:

I got done with both games, but I still have to really 100% them! :)

Personally, I activated the lives system the moment I realized it was gone, but honestly it made me realize it's more of an inconvenience than anything in Generations because the game isn't that generous with lives (unless you invest all your skill points into them) and they run out quickly when you're experimenting to find some specific Chao and Red Rings.

I remember doing that with one of my cousins on the original Generations! Very fun times! :D
Of course, I played the whole time with the Adventure skin! :hehe:
What they did with the drop dash is weird, feels like Classic Sonic should have it by default instead of Modern... :paranormal:

Mortamon Saturn wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 6:05 pm Funny, we happened to just bring up a certain cosmic fall of a line from that game in the French forums :hap:
Funny you mention Cosmic Fall, actually. I took the time to gather up the last of those Secret Keys somewhat recently and that was one of the levels still missing a few. I think...Central City, and...and?...Ah right, Space Gadget. I'd kick myself if I forgot, I don't have amnesia. I also don't have to guess what line that'd be, do I?

Also that line you mentioned here reminded of that one conversation we had about that stock sound for the broken glass in that particular cutscene. Never fails to make me laugh, it's got the same effect as the jpeg explosion in SA2 when Sonic 'dies' in the background of one of Shadow's cutscenes. What is it about his cutscenes that wind up being unintentionally funny?...Maybe it's his serious voice but narmy lines.

I can say Shadow 2 didn't stand a chance against me! I did have fun and enjoyed myself, but only halfway. Once it got into the modern era i.e. the Sonic games I really don't ever care to play, I came to really loathe the lack of soul and color, and the morph's badly explained/initially awkward upward swing (thank you for the help on that, Cosmic), the last zone's crazy difficulty spike, the lackluster final boss...If anything it made me love the Shadow game I grew up with even more. I missed the gunplay, the chaos blast, the black volt riding...All this talking about it is really tempting me to go for another route. Shadow Generations was fun until Sega's harsh reality hit.

That said, Terios in 3D was trippy to see but also really fun to clean up the rest of the game with. (Also where's Almost Dead, you cowards! :mefiant:)
I'll really have to get back to this game one day, I only went key-hunting in a few levels back in my edgyhog days and it was really fun to see what they unlock!
Let's just say it's a very questionable out of context line involving some "alien creatures" heard a bit too commonly in this game :hap:

Or there's that time where he actually fell into a giant pixelated photo! Poor Sonic had a rough transition to jpeg in this game... :P
Image
I'll never get enough of the voice lines in the Adventure games, especially SA1!

Ah, sorry to hear you only had a good experience with half of it. :(
I personally enjoyed the high difficulty as OG Generations was really too relaxed in that department (though Doom Morph did take quite some time until I mastered it).
All the stages were a blast to me despite a few coming from less enjoyable Sonic games especially once you take the time to learn them, I'm really impressed how this game can do something so good with 06 or Forces content and be more enjoyable than those entire games in just 2 acts inspired by them! :hinhin: (But I'm still glad Black Doom was here to interrupt the Forces stage with something from an actually good Sonic game :bad: )
Though, the final boss was really too easy (not even a hard version even when bloody Time Eater had one :x , and it had a severe lack of I Am All of Me, although it doesn't fit Shadow conquering his past and I really appreciated Black Doom's theme getting a surprise intense remix!), but I really loved it despite that and to me it's just a better take on Devil Doom both in terms of gameplay (for how a Sonic game should feel) and writing + cutscene presentation! :mryellow:
As much as a guilty pleasure Shadow 05 was, so much of it just doesn't fit the Sonic series at all, so I can't blame Shadow Gens for getting rid of the weapons or vehicles by instead translating them into the Doom powers... But I won't forgive SEGA for not even bringing back a stage from it when this is supposed to be Shadow's nostalgic game, now that's one heck of a cowardly move! :pascontent:
But yeah, while I had a great time with all of it, most of the second half felt pretty underwhelming compared to the rest... At least I finally got my Mephiles back! :hinhinhin:

I only used it a tiny bit as Shadow's final appearance looks infinitely more fitting IMO, but it was fun seeing Terios in action! Lame how they also locked so many great songs behind a DLC when it could have easily been base game content, like come on, some are literally in Sonic Generations' files bundled with this game... :mefiant:

...I should stop now or else this topic too will also turn into an unrelated Sonic one :oops2:

I'd like to challenge that statement with the fact that I dressed up as Laa-Laa for Halloween both last year and this year. All I did was hand out candy and barely anyone recognized me, but I didn't care. I even got to eat Tubby Custard at the end of the night this time and I recorded myself doing it!

Well, it was bound to happen as Sega's most recent output for Sonic really wasn't my thing, and I knew I was going to have to push my way past it to finish the game. That being said...

The movie DLC that I just got around to playing redeemed the sour taste of the game's latter half for me singlehandedly. I went into it blind, so I had no idea what to expect. I really love how it was done, and I was genuinely having fun tearing through it, causing tons of property damage and parkour-trespassing across the city. That and I was really happy to hear Westopolis' BGM again. Apparently, that's all I needed to get hyped up. :mryellow:
(It helps that I'd been waiting on the movie since it got delayed last year, so I was really hyped for whatever this DLC was going to throw at me.)

Fair, aside from Frontiers, I pretty much enjoyed nothing done by SEGA regarding Sonic since the original Generations. The 2010s weren't that great for the hedgehog aside from these games and Mania...
Hopefully they'll finally learn the right lessons from their experimenting phase with Frontiers + Shadow (especially when the latter is getting praised as one of the best 3D Sonic games), because I certainly don't want another Lost World or Forces... :tssk: and oh god, let's not even talk about the Boom games... :beurk:

The DLC's release caught me off-guard, that was some good stuff and I like how it felt like Westopolis both for parts of its level/game design or its soundtrack!
Though I wish it had more content like an Act 2, and I wish it didn't have an unskippable cutscene in the middle of it as it really breaks the pace on repeated playthroughs... You can't even use the movie skin outside of it, which is weird when they bothered making such a detailled model...
As "free" content for the pre-order bonus, that's nice, but as a 6€ DLC, that's way too little to be a good purchase... Let's hope SEGA will listen to the feedback to make some improvements at the very least, because even Frontiers' free DLC/updates had more to offer...

They really had a lot of shortsighted awareness at the time, especially when they created a counterpart of Eggman with a very dangerous sounding name and gave him a theme called "Wrapped in Black" with samples of a Malcolm X speech :hap:

Well, all I can think of are the ReDesigner topic when we talked a bit about Shadow, and a French topic I mentionned recently in my case! :oops2:

I didn't play either and still despise what I've seen of them level design-wise. A bit of the 'level made of floating boxes' stuff showed up in the Forces/Frontiers parts and I was none too surprised. At least that probably means it was much easier to put together to meet the deadline...
I mean, I expect it out of Kid Chameleon due to its tiling system, not a 3d Sonic game. There's floating platforms and then there's being lazy.

Yeah, it at least needed a whole level set, unless it's three acts in one act? I didn't mind the cutscene since the rest of the game has them...I guess in this case it's more of a transition scene so it can't be skipped? Not being able to use the skin outside of the single level is very disappointing. (the detailed skates look so cool!)

Also oh wow, I've always wondered about the vocals in that song, I had no idea! Man, that's really awkward.

I suppose it'd be best to not derail the topic further, so if there's any follow up to this, I'll continue the chat there.
