It cannot be emulated.

You can see the intro page and the demos though, and there is a funny background glitch in Picture City if you use Yabause.

I also tried that a long time ago, but with no avail, neither with another game I had in mind to try out in the emulator.
I think that currently you really need the physical console with you to run a game.

I tried SSF and Satourne and they're both pretty crap. I think I'm done with this for now.

But it makes me thinking... does the Saturn console is hard to emulate or the developers haven't just got time/money/people to help?

A combination of the two.

Yes, it's also what I think.

As far as I know, it's just as hard to emulate as it was to develop for. It had all those processors in it, after all.

The processors are the easy part. The two SH2s are no big deal... very easy to program. The 68000 used for the audio has always been a programmer's favorite as well. The SH1 you can ignore since it only controls the CDROM, and is not directly accessible to the programmer.
What's a pain on the Saturn are the two VDPs - the 2D chip in particular. It's funny, but a lot of games don't use the 2D at all, or merely to display a static background. The "sprite" VDP is fairly close to regular 3D type GPUs, and was the part most devs liked using for Saturn games. The only thing they didn't like about it was you had to use quadrilaterals for 3D instead of triangles. The VDPs are also the part that gives emulators the most trouble.

While we're on about Saturns, remember this magazine scan?

Well my boyfriend's just confirmed that he has the magazine it comes from which is a Saturn one, not EGM. Just so you know. :3

One thing that interests me about that is that, you can see how the character design for the final Rayman 2 actually progressed from this... it also kind of has a "Tonic Trouble" style to it, though I guess one could say it's all Ancel's general art direction for his cartoony games.

Well that explains why it mentions the Saturn in the first sentence...

Anyone knows anything about that big present box in the sky?

Um we talked about this before. It's likely to be the bonus breakout level in the Jag and PC versions.

Nintendo could make another contract with SEGA to make SEGA Saturn games available on the Wii Shop Channel.

That would be great because not many people have Saturns these days [the game being even rarer] but I doubt it'll actually happen.

Or even the Dreamcast games. So bad there are very few chances of that happening, but it would bring more "clients" in the other hand.

Nintendo and Sega have already struck a deal to offer Master System and Mega Drive games on the Virtual Console if I'm not mistaken. I think 32x, Saturn and Dreamcast might not be possible due to the Wii's lack of hard disk and general underpowered nature. Even if it does happen, the chances of third-party games (e.g. Rayman) showing up on it are slim, as there haven't been many third-party games on any Virtual Console system so far.
According to some leaked documents for Sega, Dreamcast games will be released on PSN. Mentions of exclusivity deals imply other platforms as well (XBLA, Steam etc.). I don't care too much about this though. I'd greatly prefer to have unofficial emulation of these systems progress, as it can offer a far superior experience to playing the games under any official service.

Remember that the Wii memory can be raised up with a SD card. Even so... that's a shame to hear.

I havent read any of the following comments, just so you know.

I made a topic about me asking if Rayman 1 worked on PS2 and Drolpiraat said it schould, but now it got locked because i schould ask here instead.. So i heard that you would need a PS1 memory card if i schould play Rayman 1 with PS2, True or false? and do i get all the effects when i use PS2 instead of 1 and all the other PS1 exclusive goodies?
