I wasn't aware of that, I never used that distribution.

Well, the computer I'm posting this on is connected to a screen, but the other computer is indeed connected to the TV. It basically does everything I need to be always-on, i.e. recording television on-demand (though that sometimes screws up too, think it's a hardware problem), my webserver and my mailserver.

The present form of the server is a mish-mash of components from a few different computers that I built way back in 2008 and 2009, so quite old. The motherboard (read: old Intel chipset) can't handle more than 4 GB RAM, which is the source of my main concern about overhead. Though, thinking again, containers are supposed to have much less overhead than more traditional sandboxing, I guess. Don't know if it'd make much of a difference though.

You should get into Raspberry PIs, you can have all the parallel processing power you need, little space, and you could even make a media center with it, although if you plan to make a Media Center I would advise you to choose the UDOOx86

A Pi (one of the newer models) would be good yeah, I guess. Still, I don't like the idea of having everything on a USB hard drive, since USB is, well, slow…

Happened to me a few years ago, but it was a crow. For a while after that I just wanted to shoot every crow I saw.

Boring jobs have something cool, if you're a computer consultant as an example, you basically only have to handle random events and you spend all your day doing pretty much nothing when not asked to do something and here you can make it cool...
