Yeah it was just a normal smile like this one but with open eyes and closed mouth unlike the emoji Fifo posted

Anyway, my tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.

< looked it up and it seems that ☺ was originally not an emoji, but another character that predates them (U+263A). It became only later but for some reason in some cases it shows as ☺ and in others as .

Huh, I didn't even know that! That's interesting.

< thinks the most interesting thing about emoji is that it's a complete coincidence that the word "emoji" is so similar to "emoticon" – the former is a Japanese word that has absolutely no connection to "emotion"!

< believes "emoji" means something along the lines of "picture letter" while "emoticon" is of course emotion and icon. They're basically the same thing and sound similar but the "emo" part is from a totally different root.
