< has received <'s mid-term work report yesterday. < must say that < has made a satisfying effort.
< will try to start multiple things to work on today as early as < can to have time for <'s self today.

< wonders why’d you do that. < sees no usefulness from it.

< suggests checking this out: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n ... -2018-5407
< was also suspicious that it might be making <'s Windows VM unstable (an issue that < has been (avoiding) dealing with since < changed <'s motherboard). < has not yet checked if that's ameliorated.

< has been suspicious of HT in general since last year when < disabled it on <'s work PC because it was making array formulas in Excel randomly fail to calculate. Also work-related, < much more recently received advice from the company TCAD support group that HT/SMT should be disabled on all simulation servers because attempting to use it to parallellize simulations actually makes the computer work harder, and so less efficient.

< finds this info about HT interesting considering that < has always used Intel in <'s PC and uses an i7. < finds it a little curious that SMT actually has this issue too. < heard something about Intel vulnerabilities in the past but < wasn't sure if it related to hyperthreading.

< says that a lot of branch-prediction vulnerabilities were discovered around the new year. Most of them come under the "Spectre" umbrella and affect almost all modern CPUs at the hardware level. "Meltdown" is a specific variant that's relatively easy to mitigate and affects only Intel CPUs.

< had recently been looking around at the index page and < realized that the record for most users online had suddenly almost doubled to 959. Has this happened to anybody else?

Edit: < knows it’s not really important but it kinda threw < off a bit.

< was too busy looking at actual threads to notice that tbh, at the end of the day it's only a number, which mostly consists of guests.

< is really hoping these laptop parts come tomorrow because < is looking forward to having a laptop with a decent CPU :P

Yeah, < was thinking that too, but we haven't had that many in 3 years! :paranormal:

That’s true, it’s not really important :)

With DST here over, <‘s clocks have turned back an hour. < is in sync with the rest of the world now < guess. < never seems to notice when DST happens and ends.

Well even 3 years ago <'s almost sure it was 462, but judging by the fact that it's usually about 100 members all those times that < did check, so it's kind of odd that so many would just log on at once out of nowhere. Either way it's just a number and none of those 900+ signed up to post.

DST is always on a Saturday night / Sunday morning (1am/2am).

But wouldn't only a heavy spammer ever see such a phpBB message in the first place anyway, even if it was enabled?

It's very unlikely that < will be getting the laptop parts tomorrow as the tracking for both items hasn't updated since the 31st :(

< says you don't have to be a spammer, just replying to threads in quick succession. This could happen if you'd seen two thought-provoking posts earlier, then came back to them later having come up with replies, firing them off within less than a minute of each other. Just because it takes a while to think of something, doesn't mean it takes a while to type it!

Well it certainly takes < a while to type stuff especially if < doesn't want to make lots of typos :P

< has never seen that message here though ever, unless it's disabled on this forum now.

< knows it gets disabled during Record Day, but < is pretty sure Humch would have remembered to turn it back on afterwards.
