It's a bit confusing since there have been a lot of canceled 3D Rayman games over the years, several of which never really went into production. After Rayman Origins Ubisoft Montpellier did want to make a 3D game, but due to initially poor sales of Origins they didn't get it greenlit and went on to make another 2D game instead. After Legends they tried again, but the same deal happened with the initial poor sales stopping it, and Ubisoft wanted them to invest into mobile gaming instead, which is where Adventures came from.
The source for the 3D game after Origins is here:

There was also a Rayman project at Ubisoft Da Nang that started in 2021, but never got greenlit. We don't know much about that either, and it was probably a smaller game based on the studio's history. Source for that is:

I was told about this supposed 3D game between RO and RL a while ago, but I don't think they ever started working on it. It seems like a misinterpretation of Rayman Universe's tweets, which only say that they wanted to work on a 3D game. They did start working on a 3D game after Legends, though the project was quickly cancelled as well.
I don't think Legends features many concepts initially created for a 3D game either, rather it seems like they mostly carried over concepts that went unused for Origins.
As someone pointed out in the RO thread, quite a few Legends worlds seem like they were initially created for Origins - even the tropical jungle designs resemble what we've seen from the early Sinbad world for Legends (unfortunate then that these concepts ended up getting scrapped for 2 games in a row).

Very interesting! Didn't know about this. I did some quick googling and found this from an external contractor:
https://whatzhat.com/en/portfolio/ubisoft/
As part of the redesign of their flagship game, Rayman, Ubisoft asked us to do some research on the game's new logo and home screen.
Rayman was THE game that launched the studio, so they wanted to do everything they could to make this new edition a success, hence the long research and meticulous progress.
From the wording here and the image it seems like Ubisoft Da Nang's first big project was a remake of the first game.
My personal theory is that just like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which was announced as Ubisoft India's project in 2020, and is now in development at Ubisoft Montréal, this Rayman remake also got cancelled at Ubisoft Da Nang and transferred to Ubisoft Montpellier and Milan - and this new version is the rumored Rayman remake that is in development right now.
(Small edit: The more I think about this, the more likely it seems. The timing of the project and it being cancelled lines up exactly with The Sands of Time. I think there is a good chance that when the Sands of Time backlash happened, people at Ubi looked at the state of the Rayman project and feared that it would end up the same, so like with Sands of Time they gave the project to a more capable studio.)

Good Lord… We don't need an official remake of the first game, we have Redemption!

People are now crying over this on social media I see, but... I think it would have been way worse if this had come out. With all respect to the people who made them, the images don't look very good to me. I don't really know how to describe it other than saying feel very much on the level of a ~2010 Gameloft mobile game or a early Xbox 360-era XBLA game.
The studio's later works (Ubisoft Nano games) also give me no confidence that this project was ever going to turn out well.
Ubisoft cancelling the project and instead giving Ubisoft Montpellier and Milan, two proven development studios the opportunity to work on the IP shows that someone there still cares. Let's just wait and see how their project turns out.

Maybe it's the way you presented the information, but… yeah, I'm certainly glad it didn't see the light of day. I don't know why people would be upset about its cancellation.
Quality over quantity, people!

I do not understand why people are crying over this ngl, we have Rayman redemption, right? And that’s completely free with a computer??

Eh, anecdotal, but while I have a lot of respect and admiration for Redemption and have nothing objectively bad to say about it...I don't necessarily like how it changes the plot of the original game. Though you could make that argument about many a remake.
I imagine one valid item is probably graphically speaking, Redemption has unique assets yes, but in general it's still of the original games visual style and clarity. Some may want to see the assets redone or at the very least retouched as a "HD" overhaul.

People are over-interpreting this: yes, this shows that Ubisoft was, and may still be working on something Rayman 1-related ("the project did not proceed" could refer to just a part of it), but a full remake? The pictures clearly say "the story of Rayman", sounds more like a documentary to me. At least there's no reason on Earth to blindly assume a remake was ever considered and to get all worked up about it like we're witnessing on social media right now.

Yeah, this Magician really looks like he's from a 2010 fan game, but I imagine those were just sketches, hence the rushed feeling.

My thoughts exactly. Redemption is an amazing fan game but the plot changes, the new assets and some of the controls are not at the level of what can be expected of a major studio. And that's perfectly fine, it was made by a single dude after all! But if Rayman 1 were to get an official remake, which I don't think it even needs to begin with, I would expect something different.

Woah, I must've missed something interesting while I was gone! I've got to agree with Goop here. This is the first time I'm seeing any of this!
From the general sounds of the posts I looked at, I could imagine it's possibly a documentary like Hunch says. The story of Rayman just makes sense for, well, the story of Rayman. But I probably actually need The Magician right now because yeah, I
do wanna know what's going on!
I'm none too surprised that it's been assumed to be a new game, though. Anyone's guess is as good as mine. I'm more surprised to see The Magician from Rayman 1 again, myself. I didn't realize just how much I missed him.
And that jeweled ring in the same picture is so interesting!...I wonder what that's all about? I swear there were similar rings in the Caves of Skops' background objects, but it's been so long since I've even thought about Rayman 1 that I can't even remember very much about the details anymore...

Yes, I still think it was a remake because they tried a logo with the title "Rayman Forever" and wrote this description:
As part of the redesign of their flagship game, Rayman, Ubisoft asked us to do some research on the game's new logo (meaning it had an old one) and home screen.
Rayman was THE game that launched the studio, so they wanted to do everything they could to make this new edition a success,
I think this makes it very fair to assume it was a remake or remaster (and in any case, no one would write something like this about a documentary). The reason why I assumed remake is that 3D magician model, which I don't think was made by the external contractor (it's not what they typically seem to do). It seems more likely that it was an asset sent to them by Ubisoft. In that case, it's probably 3D/2.5D, and also falls in line with what we've heard about the current remake (it's 3D).
That said, I don't think it would've been a
good remake, so I also don't think it's worth getting worked up over. Especially since we're still getting a Rayman project, by 2 proven studios no less. It shows to me that people at Ubisoft care about this brand and do not want to ruin it with low-quality entries.

I don't think it ever was a remake or a remaster, but maybe a re-release. That would explain the mention of a "new edition". I don't know about a documentary for sure, but the logos that read "the story of Rayman" must have been for some kind of retrospective.
Most importantly, though, I can't imagine the development of a non-minor Rayman game being completely "outsourced" to Ubisoft Da Nang, given how protective Montpellier seem to be with the franchise.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll find out sooner than later. In the meantime, everything is mere speculation on our part, and there's no reason to cry over what we don't know for sure!

That's right, I apologize if the tweet could have been misleading, since English is not my native language, but yes, the 3d game after Rayman Origins was only the idea of Michel Ancel and his team, but this idea did not go beyond creating a CGi trailer for Rayman Legends as a demonstration of the symbiosis of the art style of Rayman Origins and the third dimension due to the poor sales of Rayman Origins and Ancel's work on other projects

From a YouTube comment it's been discovered that the LinkedIn page for the developer Fricard Stephane has a game listed as "Rayman Daydream". His game list is a bit messy though, with dates and such not matching, so it's hard to make much out of this.

That seems to refer to a title for the discontinued Google Daydream VR platform, like that VR Rabbids game they did:
https://news.ubisoft.com/en-us/article/ ... his-spring
Especially with the skills listed on that LinkedIn entry being VR and Unity (Rabbids VR was developed in Unity).
Looking at other Montpellier devs' profiles, a lot of them list this game as "Rabbids VR The Big Plan for Google Daydream". I think it's very likely that "Rayman Daydream" was simply a mistake and he meant to write "Rabbids Daydream".

Rayman = Rabbids confirmed.
Anyway,
I did a little bit more research on this cancelled 2021 title and I think it might actually have been a small browser game like Incrediballs Dodge. We can continue the conversation in that thread as this is one is for Rayman Legends.

I’d say most are around the same length as origins. Both definitely have the shortest games in the series though.
