I actually found it the other way round. Picture City was a dream, while Eat at Joe's gave me nightmares (only the last bit, though.)

That level almost made me cry, but the last part made up for it. The little sabertooth shark things were a little annoying but it was fun.

I attempted the last part about... 30 times, methinks. I just couldn't get the timing and jumps right.

The sharks are what made me cry. It was so frustrating to have to go back to the very beginning after losing all my lives.

That's exactly what i can say about Picture city, the world itself was a dream, but Space Mama was the nightmare.
And yes last eat at joe's level is hard, but that only took me like 10+ tries (i cheated 99 lifes, weak, i know), but Space mama took me 30+ tries..... on my second DAY!!
The first day with space mama took me like 50+ tries, then i just quitted it.
So yeah, 80+ tries in total, played on my own PS1.

I found Space Mama really, really tame.

I feel so abnormal now.

In my oppinion the hardest levels are from the Picture City: Allegro Presto and Eat at Joe's aren't comparable.
The main difficulty on the Allegro Presto is when you still don't have the Helicopter, but you can grab on the edges of the pentagrams. Now on Eat at Joe's, it's a matter of timing on the running jumps and the agility to control Rayman.
By the way, about the GBC version, does anyone knows if it's possible to emulate the infrared communication? I want to acess the Ubi Key thing with the correspondent ROM and having acess to the Ubi Cliff level.

The olny parts of Picture City i found hard was the second part of Pencil Pentathlon and Space Mama. Other than that the sliding and jumping was fun and that last part in Space Mama's Crater before you fight her was perfect.
As for Allegro Presto it is probably one of my favourite levels in the game i just loved everything about it.

Agreed - Allegfro Presto is a gorgeous level. The most fun I've had in my 2D life.

Rayman 1 is a pretty easy game.

Seriously I've always found the first few levels of band land to be the hardest part of the game as it's just so expansive and hard to figure out where you're going. After that everything tended to be pretty clear and the cages easier to find.
I remember always having a problem on Space Mama initially and Eat at Joe's can be frustrating if you don't take your time, but other than that, the game was really well constructed in terms of knowing what to do and hitting that fine line between tricky design and overly difficult.

I agree 100% with the guy above me. I was stuck at Space Mama until my Win95 and the game got trashed. Later I bought it again using the XP patch, and had to use cheats to get past it. The next week I finished the entire game without using cheats

It's all a matter of practice, after Rayman 1 looks quite a joke when before you were finding it hard.

Quite true. I do think it's harder than other Rayman games, though (in the main canon) - I could finish 2 in 6 hours and no deaths first time, and 3 took me 8 hours. Rayman 1 saw me die about... 55 times in total X_X and it took me 20 hours first time round. Oh, the shame.

I'm better now, though!

Oh my first times playing Rayman 1, I losed the 1st continue on Allegro Presto and all the others on Space Mama's Crater. After it was divided with Eat at Joe's too. Nowadays I don't lose Continues, and I can reach more than 70 lives if I do things correctly.

It's actually more than hard when you're a kid.

That's also normal, kids have less level of experience than teens, or nearly adult teens if both are hardcore gamers and not casual.
