MandM: as said, i already realized that it depends on a lot more factors than only the level-maximums in order to make a fair game. and i also said, it's not in our hands to think about that...
i see the point in your questions and i'd really love to test all those things. i mean, seriously, no one of us has every played rayman 3 on more than one platform (well, I have, but that was like 6 years ago...) and i honestly think no one can argue about this. of course, i believe what you guys tell me about the different-platform-glitches but i can't for example argue about the razoff glitch on different platforms if i haven't actually tested it.
i got my BOM score over 2 years ago and at that time no one ever thought it might not be possible to hit razoff four times on all the platforms. from my recent point of view, I, of course, would have also calculated away those 800 points in BOM, if there would have been enough evidence on it (by the way, i think there's plenty grammar mistakes in this sentence.. xD).
my point is, not being able to pull something off doesn't actually mean it's impossible. of course, I don't wanna say with this, that anyone here is just too bad to pull of some glitches or tricks. it's just that i haven't tested the glitches in all the games and so i can't tell if they really are impossible.
but that's pretty much different with the lums glitches and the missing vortex in FC. we all know that there's no lums glitch on the PC version, and the green can in FC part 4 just isn't there. i never actually made a video or a screenshot. i can, if anyone wants me to.
that's not my point of view anymore... that's just how i was seeing all this, so please don't judge me on this anymore.
by the way, i'm curious where you actually have a higher score than on your maximum-savegame...

I believe there are also differences in Rayman's performance. It seems he can jump higher on certain platforms. Of course, that is hard to prove, unless someone tests every version but the videos, the tales of several players and my own experience indicate that there is indeed a difference. I've come up with the following list, first jumps highest and so on:
1.) Xbox
2.) GC
3.) PS2
4.) PC
Furthermore, there seem to be some differences on different PCs. I remember jona saying that he could do some combos on his old PC which he couldn't do on a newer model.
It would be great to further investigate this theory...

I also remember not being able to jump to the balloon in the Land while Jona could do it easily on one of his computers (or was that someone else?). I chose a combo of my own and also took advantage of those bonus Hoodblasters, which allowed me to get more points than stated in MandM's solution (I know any of you could do even better if it was of any use, but well, I was pretty happy back then

).

On Vista, Globox's first line in the final battle stage starts too early, so that might be linked to Jona's issues.
XP: "Hey sir, have you seen André? He's a somewhat roudy black lum, enjoys destroying the world but he's very sweet when you get to know him."
Vista: "somewhat roudy black lum, enjoys destroying the world but he's very sweet when you get to know him."

I never tested R3 on Vista.

I don't think this is about Vista/XP, rather about hardware.
@Hunch: That's a good example. I recently noticed it in SBTC part 2. There are some jumps which seem impossible in my version but MandM does them easily in his videos. The best example is probably the jump in CF part 2. MandM (the only Xbox player) is also the only one who can do that jump on a regular basis.

That's awful. I suppose, instead of porting the engine, they had to rewrite parts of it for different consoles and they forgot to make sure that Rayman's physics (don't eat me if that's the wrong term) were the same across all platforms.

And that jump took me weeks of practise to carry out on a regular basis. It's far from being easy. By the way, how did you arrive on that jump statistic?
I think it would be an impossible task to look into each platform and weed out all the differences. That is, we will only be allowed to play combos that can be done on every platform. And who decides what can or can't be done on each platform?

Being active in R3 scoring discussions for almost 6 years gave me an extensive knowledge of the game. Many things I have read and seen in these six years pointed to that statistic. I've mentioned some examples before - the jump in CF (you shouldn't forget that other players had the video, had the exact description, practiced that jump for hours and still couldn't do it), various leaps in SBTC (I can't do the jump from the rock to the platform with the piggy bank and three yellow gems and the jump through the bridge in the second scaffolding combo for example), the jump to the balloon in TLOTLD (indicating that PC players can jump the lowest), the jump to the platform with the tribelle in HH part 3 (DTUCC jumps a lot higher in his video than I could ever manage, thus getting to the tribelle a lot easier) and some more.
This list has been developing in my mind for months and every experience I've made with jumps in that time span has given my theory more fodder. Nowadays I am pretty sure that it is adequate.

And talking about jumps in SBTC. How are you doing in part 2?
Actually the jumps are not crucial in part 2. The jump to the level with the Pigs in the beginning only gives you a few extra points, maybe a hundred or so. Failing the jump to the first Balloon in the Balloon Combo is not devastating. I have an alternative way of playing this combo. The jump through the bridge in the Second Scaffolding Combo is cool, but again, you can live without it. Since your score in the first part is close to 20k points, you have already evened out the advantage of that bridge. I think I had 18,700+ points after part 1 the first time I reached 88.500 points after part 2.

I haven't played much, lacked the motivation. So far I had some success here and there but still a long way to go.
Curiously, the jump to the balloon I can do rather easily. The Balloon Combo is also the only one of the major combos in that part that doesn't cause me many problems. I almost managed it twice and then the mistakes were only minor (like the Hoodblaster getting killed in the preparation).

As another PS2 player, the combo I found most difficult was the circular arena combo. It's a fairly simple combo if you time it well and you make all the correct movements, but then there are so many areas in which to fall. I found the jump to the balloon straightforward as well... I barely ever wrecked that combo.

I do agree that the Circular Arena Combo is probably the most difficult of them, even though the timing in The Scaffolding Combo must be immaculate as well. The arena combo is long and there are several pit falls. It most often fails me at the Matuvu. I need to convert the Lum from the first Elite Monger before taking the Matuvu, and that does require timing.
The most annoying thing in this part is probably the Hoodboom's tendency to commit suicide in the Lavicraft Combo. It's 1.260 points out the door if that happens.

I haven't played much but I can agree there - the Circular Arena combo and the Lavicraft combo are the worst. I'll experiment a bit with the Circular Arena, trying to weaken the Hoodmonger Officers beforehand but a big problem are also the yellow gems downwards.

I'm pretty sure the Hoodboom only kills himself if you walk in the near proximity. Thus, he'll throw a cocktail at you and in doing so kill himself. I always avoided this by staying well clear of him until the end.

uhm... my view of that is actually pretty different... xD
i never had any big problems with doing the circular arena combo. sure, it took some practice to do, but it didn't frustrate me near as much as the scaffolding combo.
that last elite monger just sucks. i had a hard time hitting that guy and if one fails it's 2500 points that are lost, which means a restart. it's even more frustrating that it's the last combo, so if you fail there's like 15 minutes of work lost.
i sometimes managed the jump through the scaffolding in the second combo, but never in a non-test-run. that one doesn't hurt, anyway, because you can live without that one.
the only problem in the lavicraft combo is the hoodboom, in my opinion. if that guy doesn't kill himself, it's all fine. i had more trouble doing the balloon combo. somehow i always was too slow when i was practicing.

Due to a total lack of motivation I haven't played for more than a week. I just can't bring myself to put the R3-CD into the PS2 and press the power button.

I sympathize with that. I haven't really given any thought to the game for a long time. In any case, I'm on a seminar this week, so I have other more pressing things to attend to. However, I do look forward to holding the remote once again in the future.

I just have a little more points but I can't pick a lot on the game now because school starts on Wednesday for me...

seems like i'm the only one right now that plays the game a lot... that might get boring, after some time, anyway... :P
i changed to the other launching glitch again. i was exeggerating a bit when i said the other one actually worked. when i said that, i still missed the platform, but i thought it was possible. so forget about that...
anyway, i got the other launching glitch to work now, though i can hardly trigger it. during the last 3 hours of playing i got it to work once. and then i missed the green gem, obviously.
however, i feel pretty close to beating SBTC. dunno why, though :D
