I honestly think Sonic 4 gets more hate than it deserves. I agree that it was among the hedgehog's weaker 2D outings, but it was one of the first Sonic games I played, and I had a good time with it when I was younger.

Anyway, since this isn't the unpopular opinions topic, here's a song from that game! To my knowledge, people tend to generally agree that this one was a diamond in the rough when it comes to Sonic 4 stuff; makes sense, since this is not only a great song, but it's also one of Metal Sonic's only themes that isn't a Stardust Speedway remix.

Honestly, I do wish his Ep2 theme would get another chance to shine using more modern instruments, rather than the pseudoretro aesthetic that Sonic 4 did. As for Sonic 4's OST in general..it's...not bad. There are some tracks in there I did genuinely like, such as Sky Fortress Act 3:

And it's not like Sonic 4's composer - Jun Senoue, isn't a good musician either. He's worked on the series from the tail-end of the Mega Drive era all the way through the so-called Dreamcast era, and still shows up every now and then in the modern era. I just kinda think he doesn't do retro styled tracks all too well, but the compositions themselves can still be pretty good. Just take a listen to this collaborative rendition between Jun Senoue and Tee Lopes of Splash Hill:

Funfact: I first heard of this song when Windows Media Centre misidentified my rip of my Rayman Forever CD as a copy of their album "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" I forget which track was identified as this song, but I do remember that this one got called "Shut Up":

Apparently, he was really rude to the point where Nickeloden fired him completely. Not to mention the sexual abuse allegations. All in all, there’s just a lot to unpack.
