RayFan9876 wrote:Hey everyone, the new SDK is amazing. I'm working on Rayman's gameplay mechanics and everything is sailing so well. The animation transitions are smooth, I've got a whole live character mechanics system working (collisions with the world/gravity). The only problem is that for some reason Rayman's right foot just hangs limp while the rest of him is animated when I apply the character physics to him. If I apply the animations to him as a static object it all works fine. I find it to be an odd problem. It won't affect my development, it just looks really weird and may give me the wrong idea when programming the rest of the mechanics. Here's an amusing picture of him running without the use of his right foot:
However I have vastly improved the running animation and it looks pretty perfect for the time being (compared to the "early gameplay sample" where he ran like a dork). You'll also notice how his hands aren't fists when he's running. that's because currently CryEngine3 doesn't support modifier animation (animating the vertexes and poly data). It only supports animation for position, rotation, and scale. I hope they introduce modifier support soon.
I have no idea what you just said.

That's a strange little bug you've got there, that thing with the limp foot. Though maybe it'll give you an idea for some nice level where it's a part of the strategy of playing: dealing with impaired legs. XD Nah, that would be a rubbish level.
And how are you going to make the cinematics? Do you do them in Max, or in CryEngine also?

Probably a combination. I'll probably end up doing the character animations in Max and the rest in the engine.

By the way, has anyone had the same problem with starting up the engine I had (I posted about it a view posts ago)? I'd really like to see what the engine is like but it just won't start up.

One word of advice: Get off your XP 32-bit. It's time to move on.

That's most likely the problem.
@that3Dguy:
I could, but 3ds Max has much more detailed means for animation.

Vista! It's the reason I was born! Beats XP in thousands of ways!

Except in the ways I would like to use it.
DING. Your game has crashed.
DING. Your program has crashed.
DING. Unauthorised file access by... myself. Authorise me to do what you just told me to do five seconds ago?
DING. Sorry, Vista has expired. Rewriting disk space now.
Yeah... I realise XP is outdated, but it still stands tall above Vista in a million of ways, especially in the way of old games. And I play a lot of old games. There's just so many compatibility problems, malfunctions and annoyances about Vista that cause me to casually overlook the pros. Windows 7, I don't even know. Even more compatibility problems, so I've heard.
Nevertheless, I will try getting it to work on my computer - if it really was the machine's fault, it wouldn't start up in the first place.

Heh, I can play RollerCoaster Tycoon on my laptop, but it crashes at least once a day. I could use an XP emulator though.

Then you've heard wrong my friend. Windows 7 has much better compatibility than Vista. I still agree with RayTunes though, Vista is better than XP (depending on the use).

Not Vista's problem.

Two things:
1) Send me the hands, only the hands please in a 2010 format.
2) Linux sucks at doing everything except programming more Linux.

Lol... though I know nothing about Linux, except that my father uses it to program some of his things sometimes, I can hardly believe this is completely true, though it is funny.
Now now, when I say compatibility problems regarding Win 7, I have experience. I have seen countless forum posts and seen countless problems occur myself with the games I play all the time - which means Win 7 would completely ruin me.
HOWEVER -
I have an inactive Vista computer stashed away in my house - if it's really that much better engine-compatibility wise, I could use that to start creating the game. That could actually work out quite nicely - leave this PC as my Photoshop and play computer, and have the other designated as my 'work' computer! It's not like anyone's using it anyway - it's just gathering dust down there...

I've spent almost all day working on the new Dream Forest in CryEngine3:
This time, everything is done from scratch.
