Precisely. This is what prevented the Adventure titles (at least in my opinion) from aging well, people remember that the non-Sonic/Shadow parts of those games were more than half the game. I think it isn't exactly a means of differentiating, but also filler since developing all Sonic levels would take quite some time.

To be fair, they do occasionally strike gold, the Wisps from Colours were apparently liked well enough to reappear in Lost World, despite the shake up in the gameplay formula. But I do agree that they do sometimes seem a little too desperate to keep things fresh. Experimenting is fine, but I think it's good to have a good core formula to base it off of first.

That sounds crazier then rescuing genies in magic books, or saving aliens in an interstellar amusement park.

Though the reason for this is because it only broke up a small interval rather than a whole stage, and still kept up with the pacing/speed (most of the time).

Not long been to Summer of Sonic and therefore got a load of the demo for Sonic Mania, and man did that get my approval. I only got to play Studiopolis the one time but from what I did play of it, it feels pretty much like a good classic Sonic game, a fluidly animated, vivid good Classic Sonic game. Don't get me started on that level's earworm music either.

Safe to say I can't wait for the final game

Same here! I love how beautiful everything looks, it's even better than how we remember the classical era

The Sonic Mania Collector's Edition is now available for pre-order in the US!

But it's (most likely) not coming Europe

Sonic's social media might go overboard now and then, but this was pretty funny:

Guys, I'm starting to run out of tables to throw. Can someone go to IKEA and build one for me?
