< still uses Xorg at the moment, but < read before that variable refresh doesn't work when you use more than one monitor, and that Wayland is likely the only way it would ever be possible.

< is basically fully migrated to Wayland at this point now that < has Rayman 2 and 3 working (famous last words…

)
< is thinking of getting one of these yokes, to bring <'s floppy drive back into service (from the state of being "just for decoration"

):

< wants to try it again since Xorg is a lot older, but < noticed it's so different that you can't set a primary monitor with it. < also believes that < was getting lower performance on games the last time < tried it, but there could have just been something wrong with <'s system.
< thinks it's also cool since they make those, < has a USB floppy disk drive somewhere, though < will highly likely never need to use it.

< has old DOS and OS/2 installation media lying around, which < got <'s Dad to buy on eBay back in the mid-2000s for retro-computing craic. < wants to fire them up again in modern VMs!

< has a three-day week-end but < can't make much of it because of the stupid lockdown.

< has a lot of old motherboards and core2duo CPUs. < sometimes thinks of just randomly building them for the craic as ^^ said, but then < realises how ridiculously slow they would run, even on Linux. < can't really think of much reason to use them when < already has this PC and a laptop with a decent CPU.

< had four PCs in the mid-to-late 2000s, some of them old ones that < had obtained from previous owners, on which < installed some even older operating systems (DOS 6.22 + Windows for Workgroups 3.11). < mostly just used MS Virtual PC for running old OSes though, which got a bit boring after a while.

Nowadays, < runs WfW 3.11 under Dosbox, but < would like to try out DOS 6.22 again, under QEMU or something.
<'s fondest memories of the Core2 era are of building a PC for <'s grandparents with the low-end Pentium Dual-Core inside, and then overclocking it to high heaven.

<'s first PC was pretty bad, and the second one wasn't much better. < remembers getting a Core2Duo PC in 2007, but < only had one of them OEM motherboards where you can't overclock, but back then it wasn't really a bad CPU.
<'s first was a Packard Bell, and < recalls it having a CPU speed of 451MHz, 64MB RAM, and under "My Computer", it showed 6.05GB on the HDD.
< recalls the second one having about 800MHz, 256MB RAM, and a 40GB HDD. Still a lot better than the first, nothing special, and it was some brand named "Time" (I guess it was a Time machine

).
<'s third was emachines, the one with a 2.2GHz Core2Duo, 1GB RAM, and a 250GB HDD. It seemed amazing at the time, but compared to what we have nowadays, we'd class this as an unusable machine.

< figured out how to pair <'s phone with <'s PC via Bluetooth so < can play Rayman Adventures and get the sound in <'s headphones without needing to manually reconnect them

< really needs to get a new SSD or something since < always has limited space due to partitioning. < would need 200GB or so to do things like build LineageOS, which < should have to do around once per month for the new security patch. < does have a lot of space in terms of HDDs but this will be so much slower.

< thinks that there will be predictions for the world to end in 2020.
Why?
Well, here is the pattern for apocalypse predictions so far:
1984
2000 - 16 years later
2012 - 12 years later
So, 8 years is the next step, making 2020.
< just remembered this morning that < had made this post years ago. Aside from the fact that < had never read the novel 1984 (and still hasn't, but anyway…) and so didn't realize that it wasn't about a cataclysm happening in that particular year, < finds it pretty funny that the world as we knew it actually did kinda end in 2020.

Nobody predicted it, but < kinda meta-predicted it.

< never would have expected something like COVID to happen, so ^ managed to predict it just like the Simpsons.
< drank way too much yesterday and < is really hungover.
