< really could read the text, even if < hadn't seen it before. < had a good few seconds to soak it in, despite only a moment of exposure. Of course < couldn't move <'s eyes or shift focus without the image following so < had to use <'s peripheral vision, which limits what you can read.
< suggests ^ tries it using a smartphone; when you're in bed in the black of night and your eyes have grown accustomed to the darkness, unlock your phone to a page of text and, as soon as the screen appears, close your eyes. It might take a few tries but when < gets it < can scroll to an unseen screen of text, view it for a split second and read a surprising amount of information with closed eyes. If you start with your eyes closed it can be tricky seeing as your eyes won't have enough time to focus on the image when you turn the phone on, but if you "prime" your focus by sort of estimating the depth of your phone from your face and crossing your eyes you can get a crisp image.

< will be doing some studies in IT soon, after putting it off for years for some reason. < was just never motivated to go forward, but lately < has a better mindset.

This current week has < reading a chapter on IP addresses for <'s network class. Trying to understand the calculations of subnet masks is giving < a slight headache. It's not that < is bad at binary math, but < will probably need to practice after < finishes reading said chapter (hopefully tomorrow).

< hopes that it will go well for ^. < isn't even too sure what < will need to do in <'s course exactly, though < skimmed through the basics and it involves stuff like computer hardware and networking etc. < also knows there will be assignments and a final exam at the end, but < isn't sure how strenuous these assignments will be as of yet.

<'s grandmother passed away earlier today. < will be going back to Ireland to meet up with <'s family soon.

< also pulled into a petrol station today for the first time in 2022, but to buy milk rather than petrol. < has been driving an EV since the end of last year, so it felt a bit weird to be stopping there

< finished writing a paper for the first time in years (Shadow IT). < hopes < cites <'s sources correctly and that < will not get in trouble for plagiarism, since < is not good at writing papers. < felt like < was writing an essay, which < always finds agonizing.

< recalls having a sense of impending doom at the end of 2021, both about Climate Change and about my old unreliable car, and that sense was basically allayed by getting an EV. But then at the start of January < read a piece in the Irish Times about what 2022 might hold, and at that point became aware of the Ukraine situation, which of course brought the anxiety right back. < was having nightmares over a month before the actual invasion!

< just double-checked that "allay" was an appropriate verb here, and was surprised to learn that it's not a doublet of "alleviate"! < had assumed that it was, like "abridge" is a doublet of "abbreviate".
