Also < won't be doing japanese but rather finally getting fluent in german and then most likely spanish.

< would say Duolingo is good for learning basics/mediums and helping you brush up on your language skills, but if you want to learn a language completely fluently it’s better off trying a different method

Overall, < would recommend giving it a shot before if it helps it’s free and if it doesn’t there’s no harm in having a revision tool

< likes Duo for JP specifically because it's also got kanji practice built in and a couple of challenges / features that don't seem to be present for all languages. For example, the Hungarian/Magyar track is super stripped down in both feature set and voices by comparison

< needs to get back up to speed on Spanish. < would like to actually learn some French and Japanese along with Tagalog.
