The reason that smiley didn't show up is that < had misremembered the code. < has now fixed it, both in the original message, and in Greengoop's reply

but < says ^ would be correct if Edge actually *did* open the web inspector/dev tools; the thing is that he chose the “view page source” option, which opens a separate tab with the site’s code
